I’ve been given months to live but I’m desperately trying to raise £50k for my daughter with rare brain condition

A DYING mum is desperately trying to raise £50,000 for her teen daughter who suffers a rare brain condition.

Kara Fraser, 48, was told in December that she had terminal lung cancer and just months to live.

Daughter Louise, 13, is epileptic and is also battling a rare brain condition – Chiari malformation[/caption]

Despite the diagnosis, she is determined to ensure that epileptic 13-year-old Louise is prepared for life without her.

Her daughter also has Chiari malformation — in which part of the brain is pushed down into the spinal canal, causing severe symptoms and requiring ongoing care.

Kara, of Arbroath, said: “Louise is my number one priority. I’m just keeping it all together for her.

“It’s not really sunk in that I don’t have long left.

“The only thing I’m concerned with is making sure my daughter has enough to get by when I’m gone.

“She’s already been through so much herself, but she’s my rock.”

Kara, who has previously battled paranoid schizophrenia and depression, insists her difficult past has given her the strength to face her future.

She went on: “I have had a hard life. I was homeless at 18 and spent years in and out of mental hospitals.

“I’ve only recently managed to get my mental health under control.

“I think my struggles have toughened me up. It’s not easy to be told you only have so long left to live, but I plan to keep my head held high.

“I just want to make sure my wee girl’s alright.”

Friends have launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of Kara’s funeral and ensure that Louise does not go short.

Close pal Anne Elsender, who helped organise the GoFundMe appeal, said: “Kara’s an incredible person. We’ve been friends for years.

“It broke my heart to learn she’s been given just months to live.

“With Louise being so young, we want to make sure she’s got everything she needs going forward. Kara deserves to know her daughter will be well cared for.”
