When it comes to Reese Witherspoon’s April book club pick, she didn’t have to say much to have us sold. In fact, she just played a clip for the audiobook instead.

“I am not going to try and convince you to read the April Book Club selection by talking about it,” she said in the Instagram announcement. “I’m just gonna sit here with my tiny little dog and play a clip from the audiobook and you are going to be so hooked.”

As it turns out, her latest pick is All That Life Can Afford by Emily Everett. In the clip, the main character, Anna, who recently moved to London from the US for college after fantasizing about life there for years, is showing her determination.

“London was mine and I wasn’t going to give it up,” Anna says in the clip. “Not because I couldn’t go home, but because I couldn’t give in.”

“April’s @reesesbookclub pick had me hooked the moment I started the audiobook,” Witherspoon reiterated in the caption. “And this line?! All That Life Can Afford by Emily Everett (@ednahi) is about love, ambition, and the cost of belonging, and I cannot stop thinking about it.”

In the official description, readers find out that Anna’s move to London was actually more of a wake-up call than the dream she always wanted. “The real London is a moldy flat and the same paycheck-to-paycheck grind—that fairy-tale life still out of reach,” the description reads.

That’s when she meets the Wilders, a wealthy family who fly her out to Saint-Tropez to tutor their teenage daughter. There, she bonds with her student’s older sister and dives right into “a heady whirlpool of parties and excess, a place where confidence is a birthright.”

“There she meets two handsome young men—one who wants to whisk her into his world in a chauffeured car, the other who sees through Anna’s struggle to outrun her past,” the description teases. “It’s like she’s stepped into the pages of a glittering new novel, but what will it cost her to play the part?”
