GARDAI in Donegal have warned people of heavy traffic today as a 13-year-old girl is laid to rest after her sudden death over the weekend.
A funeral service for Enya Maria Celia Mc Murrough will take place in her native Gortahork after the teenager sadly passed away in Crumlin Children’s Hospital on Saturday.
Enya, who is predeceased by her grandparents Diarmuid and Celia and Uncle Dermi, has been remembered by mourners after her “tragic and unexpected” death.
A notice online said: “Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken parents; Fionnuala and Shaun, her younger brother Séan, her grandparents; Hughie and Kathleen, aunties, uncles, cousins and extended family and many friends.”
The 13-year-old’s funeral mass will be held at 1pm in Teach Pobail Chríost Rí, Gortahork, on Thursday 6th, with interment afterwards in the adjacent cemetery.
Gardai warned people that traffic will be heavy in the area this afternoon, with drivers urged to take an alternative route.
A garda spokesperson said: ” Traffic is expected to be heavy around Christ the King Church, Gortahork and within the general Gortahork area, February 6th between 12pm and 3pm.
“Gardai will be in the area assisting with traffic duties.
“Please take an alternative route between those times if possible as traffic delays are likely to occur.”
Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola, where Enya was a first year student, told how the young girl “left a unique mark on our school community” since she arrived last August.
The school said: “Enya was a team player. Her attention to her school work was mature beyond her years.
“Her academic abilities reflected that of her teamwork in her many sporting and other pursuits. She always gave her best.
“Enya has graced many stages with her dancing skills and her musical accomplishments. She gave so much to her community for one so young. Her talents were varied and many.
“Enya, the person we got to know was kind, gentle, and caring. Her sense of humour and fun, positively affected everyone who met her, skipping along the halls at PCC.”

The heartbreaking school tribute said Enya was someone people “gravitated” towards due to her “natural kindness and warmth”.
It added: “Enya will forever be etched in our memories, and as she leaves our stage, we have no doubt she is on the heavenly stage with the other angels sharing those talents.
“Enya will live in our hearts and memories forever. Beidh sí inár gcroíthe go deo. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis uasal agus sólás Dé dá muintir.”
Clg Chloich Cheann Fhaola confirmed that all club activity and all underage club activity at Glenea Utd FC has been suspended until further notice as a mark of respect.
Comhaltas Chloich Cheann Fhaola said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of Enya Ní Mhurchadha, a friend to many of our young Comhaltas musicians and their families.
“Deepest condolences to Enya’s family, friends and PCC staff and students. May they find strength and courage at this sad time. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam Dhílis.”
