The recent episode followed loving couple Chris and Ellie who had returned to Chris’s home town in Lancashire.
The pair had recently bought Chris’ grandparents’ bungalow but decided to knock it down and build a new house from scratch.
However during the episode, Chris courageously revealed that he was battling stage four cancer and the couple explained that they wanted to be living in their home by Christmas given his diagnosis.
But as the episode ended, a photo tribute was aired revealing that Chris had sadly lost his battle with cancer after filming and died last year following their property renovation.
Presenter, George uploaded a photograph of himself with Chris on his personal Instagram account which showed the pair smiling together.
He captioned the image with an emotional message: “Chris and Ellie…thank you so, so much from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be part of your beautiful ‘BUILDING HOME’ story.
“For you to allow myself and the cameras into your life through the most difficult of times was nothing short of incredible.
“I will always cherish the times I had with you both as we followed your ‘returning home’ journey.
“There were many tears, but my word we also had a lot of laughs along the way.
“Ellie….BIG HUGS! Let’s have a large glass of wine together soon.
“Chris…I’ll miss you. Your strength will always be an inspiration to me. Rest in peace my friend.
“I’ll see you up there one day and we can sit and chat and laugh together with a few beers on your comfortable armchairs! Fly high.”
Heartbroken fans were quick to respond to the heartfelt message with one commentating: “Heartbreaking episode but what an inspirational couple to walk their path with such courage and energy and positivity.
“Sending huge love to Ellie and hoping she finds comfort in the beautiful home Chris and her created.
“I’m sure part of him will always be there. So very sad at the end of tge program.
“My husband and I both in tears.. makes you appreciate every minute spent with loved ones.”
Another added: “I came on to say exactly that … condolences to Ellie, Chris’s family and friends…. What an amazing young man they had the pleasure of knowing.”
“Oh my goodness that got me at the end. I think the build gave Chris a purpose and how he had strength to do that despite the treatment was incredible.
“The finished build was amazing especially the bathroom with that view. What a gift to leave to Ellie” said a third viewer.
Another added: “So very sad, what an adorable young couple. Life can be so cruel.
“Chris’s humour and ability to light up Ellie’s face when she was stressed was just beautiful. Thanks to them both for sharing their emotional and personal journey with us.”
While another said: “What a privilege to watch tonight’s episode and share their journey and bravery.
“My thoughts go to Ellie and their families – a very courageous young couple indeed.”
