ITV viewers couldn’t believe it when Shaun Wallace got a simple question wrong on The Chase[/caption]
The question saw him give a wild answer in the final moments of the ITV show[/caption]
Barrister Shaun, 64, has been a Chaser since the ITV show began in 2009 and is usually a force to be reckoned with.
Yet this time he failed a simple question as he attempted to catch up to the contestants at the end of the show in the final chase.
The question, asked by host Bradley Walsh, saw Shaun asked how many centimetres are in a metre with the barrister and quiz expert answering “ten”.
The real answer is hundred, and many viewers could not get over Shaun’s spectacular fail.
Taking to social media to share their shock, one viewer wrote: “Shaun is thick as mince sometimes for an intelligent man.”
Another posted: “Absolutely no way does Shaun not know how many cms are in a metre! I’m sure he does this deliberately at times!”
“Typical Shaun throwing a question when he has a low target,” said a third.
One viewer went direct to Shaun on X to tease him for the wild answer as they wrote: “@TheShaunWallace you’ve finally beaten “methylated cheese” as your worst ever answer.”
Another thought he might have gotten it wrong on purpose in an attempt to play down his intelligence as they pointed out: “The chasers aren’t allowed to deliberately play badly, its in their contract. But Shaun…. If he’s not throwing it, then he genuinely knows nothing…”
Another thought the same as they shared: “Q: How many centimetres in a metre? Shaun: Ten. Shaun trying his best to throw another Chase. GET IN THE BIN!”
The blunder from Shaun comes just weeks after he revealed his ‘kryptonite’ that would see him stumped on the ITV show.
Speaking to The Sun’s TV Mag, the former Mastermind champion revealed his ‘kryptonite’ – his weakest subject area.
He shared: “Every Achilles has a heel and my own quizzing kryptonite is soaps.
“I don’t watch them, I don’t like them, so if I’m ever asked questions on the subject, I’ll just guess!”
The Chase airs on ITV1 and ITVX.

The Chase has been entertaining ITV viewers for years, here are some of the show’s most memorable moments…
Bradley Walsh can’t stop laughing
- Every time host Bradley Walsh erupts into fits of laughter on The Chase it makes for pretty entertaining TV. One particularly memorable occasion was when he was asking the question ‘The title of which Elvis Presley song was engraved of the inside of Freddie Star’s coffin?” As usual the contestant was given four multiple choices but Bradley could get through reading them out before bursting into hysterics. Seeming the idea of the song being option ‘B: Way Down’ was too much for the presenter to handle.
The Double Trouble special
- To celebrate 15 years of The Chase on screens, ITV launched a special ‘double trouble’ episode where contestants faced off against not one but two of the show’s beloved Chasers. And despite the odds, the contestants managed to go home with some cash!
The contestants with famous names
- Eagle-eyed ITV fans are always quick to spot interesting and sometimes hidden details on the quiz show – but there have been a few times where the names of some contestants have been overtly obvious. For example, one 2017 episode of the quiz show saw Bradley welcome four contestants who were named after Friends characters Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. Another group of contestants with named from The Simpsons were also grouped together in another episode, much to viewers’ amusement.
The Beast’s anger gets the best of him
- During an episode from the 2024 season, Mark Labbett let out his inner beast as he exploded in a fit of anger. Close to losing the competition in the Final Chase, Mark then made a silly mistake and incorrectly answered the question, “Rabbit was a 1980 hit for which Cockney duo?” “Oh, you idiot!” he yelled at himself while slamming the table in front of him. With seconds left on the clock, the Chaser then admitted defeat, moaning “I don’t deserve to win.”
