Chip reignites five year feud with Stormzy calling his BRIT Awards win a ‘mockery’ in row over Central Cee

TWO Grime heavyweights have reignited their five year feud after UK rapper Chip branded Stormzy’s win at the BRIT’s a ‘mockery’.

Stormzy took home one of the biggest awards of the night but it seemed fellow artist Chip had some choice words to say about the rap star.

This weekend marked one of the biggest nights in showbiz as celebs gathered for the 2025 BRIT Awards.

Stormzy won Best British Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act at this year’s show and was up against the likes of Dave, Ghetts, Little Simz and Central Cee.

Many fans felt as though the rapper was undeserving of the award compared to other nominees in his category, most notably Central Cee, who has had a momentous year in music.

Weeks ago the London-born rapper became the joint most-decorated rapper in MOBO Awards history alongside Stormzy after winning best male act.

After his BRIT Award win, Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Omari, humbly acknowledged Central Cee as “the best rap artist”.

He began by giving a shout-out to Chase and Status, who are the masterminds behind his hit track Backbone, saying, “Big up Chase and Status, my brothers, because Backbone is definitely the reason I’m here.”

Stormzy then shared his thoughts on his win, he said: “I don’t entirely think this award should be fan voted, I don’t think any of the awards should be fan voted.

“Sometimes I think it doesn’t let people have their moments, I think Cench (Central Cee) was the Rap Artist of the Year.

“But these things don’t define us as much as they’re amazing.

“I’m very grateful to the Brits and I’m grateful to the public,” he added.

In recent times, Stormzy has distanced himself from the grime and rap genres that first brought him fame, instead embracing gospel music and even house music.

Taking to twitter in a furious rant, Chip shared his thoughts on the rappers Brit Win, he penned: “What do you guys make of The Brit awards this year …

“Here are some tweets that speak the truth. A man has done a Gospel album and a drum and bass single and won best RAP, Grime & HipHop.

“At this point he’s not my problem he’s you lot’s. Mockery lol.

“And had the cheek to say it’s done by votes as if he’s beating Central C at that.

Chip, who was formerly known as Chipmunk, is considered one of the many pioneers of British grime and hip-hop, the rap star has released hit tracks such as Oopsy Daisy and Champion.

The pair’s longstanding feud began in 2020 after a series of indirect shots in their songs.

Although they had been friends when Stormzy first rose to fame, things soured when Stormzy called himself “The King of Grime” in a spat with rapper Wiley.

Chip appeared upset by this, leading to a back-and-forth of diss tracks in one track WAZE, Chip rapped: “You ain’t even done ten years in this ting/ Round here we don’t hear you’re a king/ man will take your throne, P*** on your forehead, know your role.”

Two months later, Stormzy released I Dunno with Tion Wayne and Dutchavelli, responding to Chip.

Stormzy replied to Chip’s bars: “Is he sending for me? I dunno.”

Chip and Stormzy officially became locked in a feud when Chip accused Stormzy of turning up at his Essex home in June 2020, refusing to leave the property.

He then allegedly went upstairs to Chip’s apartment and got into a heated confrontation with the rappers family.

Alongside the accusation, Chip dropped a fiery diss track and a video of the alleged incident.

Since then the pair have remained industry rivals and it seems now Chip is restarting their bitter feud once again.
