“The insides of my trousers were wet”: Robert Pattinson Terrorized Gotham as Batman, but Jennifer Lawrence Was Too Much for the Dark Knight

Whether it is the lovable Hufflepuff prefect or the protector of Gotham City, Robert Pattinson has mastered the art of playing characters that leave a mark on the viewers and have us blushing for days. The man is just too handsome to not swoon over. Of course, Robert Pattinson is so much more than just a pretty face and his filmography speaks for itself. In his career, he has brought quite a few difficult roles to life, but it is the upcoming Die, My Love that had him sweating profusely.

Why? Well, let’s just say that impromptu dancing in films is not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if your co-star is Jennifer Lawrence, who knows a thing or two about moving to the beat.

It’s a packed few years for Robert Pattinson, whose Mickey 17 is about to be released in the United States. Next year, he will be seen in Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey. Moreover, two films with unknown release dates are currently in post-production – The Drama and Die, My Love.

Speaking of Die, My Love, the horror-dark-comedy is an adaptation of the namesake novel by Ariana Harwicz and tells the story of a new mother who enters psychosis after developing postpartum depression.

As it turns out, the film required Jennifer Lawrence and Pattinson to groove to music and it basically had the actor sweating through his clothes. In conversation with Bong Joon-Ho (Mickey 17‘s director) for GQ, the Harry Potter actor revealed that he and Lawrence had to dance for one of their scenes and none of it was choreographed. They just had to do their own thing.

However, as easy as it may sound, it quickly became one of Pattinson’s biggest nightmares. He stated,

I did this movie with Lynne Ramsay (director), and she’s a really good dancer. And Jennifer Lawrence is a really good dancer. They just find it so easy. They’re like, ‘Just dance, it’s just music playing, just dance.’ I was like, ‘I’m going to have a mental breakdown when this happens. We need to either choreograph it or cut it.’ And they’re like, ‘No, just dance, stop being all freak.’ It came to the day, and I was sweating so much, the insides of my trousers, with sweat, were wet.

Of course, there was a “little exaggeration” in Pattinson’s anecdote but it is quite hilarious to think that an actor who can effortlessly bring Batman to life would have so much trouble doing something as simple as dancing.

Is Die, My Love a comedy?

Well, given the fact that it deals with the serious topics of postpartum depression and family issues, you might find it difficult to digest that Die, My Love could be a comedy film.

However, director Lynne Ramsay believes that her upcoming film is “really f*cking funny.” While talking to Variety at the Sarajevo Film Festival, Ramsay hinted that viewers could find the film funny, that is, if they have a sense of humor like hers.

She said,

It’s about mental health…and the breakdown of a marriage. But it’s really fucking funny. At least I think it’s funny… But I’m Glaswegian, so I’ve a really black sense of humor.

Perhaps we can categorize it as a dark comedy? We will have to wait and see how Ramsay pulls this one off. However, with someone as naturally hilarious as Lawrence in the cast, she might be onto something here.

Die, My Love is set to release sometime in 2025.
