Joy Reid, one of the longtime anchors of MSNBC, is being canceled as the liberal network is going through a reshuffle for its programming structure. Her 7 PM show called the ReidOut will be replaced by a panel show consisting of Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele who co-host the weekend show. The new president of MSNBC Rebecca Kutler is said to have made the reshuffle while Reid’s final episode is going to take place later this week.
Reid has been a strong critique of Donald Trump and other Republic voters. She also criticized the right-wing Latino Republican voters saying that they own everything concerning their position under Trump’s administration, indicating the immigration laws.
Reid’s background regarding being a child of immigrant parents and her position in the world of broadcast media as a Black woman has gained her both fandom and hostility. However, her show’s ratings have been fluctuating in recent years.
What led to the cancellation of the show?
Reid has been quite vocal about her criticisms against Trump since he became the president for the first time. Her show started to drop in viewership and ratings after Trump’s victory. According to the Economic Times, Neilsen Media Research has indicated that 53% of MSNBC’s primetime viewership declined post-election, though somewhat rebounded after Trump’s inauguration.
MSNBC has made some serious changes in the administration beginning with the change in presidency. Rashida Jones, the former president, stepped down after four years. This position is given to Rebecca Kutler who has been the vice president for content strategy. After this change, the media group chairman of NBCUniversal has prompted that they have a lot to do, implying the changes (via The Guardian).
In a series of events, some other anchors like Chuck Todd and Ronna McDaniel, have also been removed from the network.

Reid has been the face of controversy many times during her tenure as an anchor of ReidOut. She has been particularly critical towards then-Florida Governor Charlie Crist in a site called Reid Report. Though she has apologized claiming that the posts have been fabricated and it has been done by an external party (via BBC).
As the controversies fueled, she kept her legalistic speeches regarding the issue. Although no evidence has been found regarding hacking on her blog. Moreover, she tried to make a cover-up and acted as if it was a ludicrous exhumation of ancient history even to be asked about the cover story.
