Drivers face delays as major Scots motorway cut to SINGLE LANE 24 hours a day

DRIVERS are facing delays as a major Scots motorway is restricted to a single lane 24 hours a day.

It comes as major improvement works begin on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Resurfacing is being carried out at Polkemmet, near Whitburn, between Junctions 5 and 4A.

The M8 eastbound will be restricted to a single lane 24 hours a day from March 22 to March 25.

There will also be a series of overnight carriageway closures.

Traffic between Shotts and Newhouse will also be reduced to a single lane in both directions for bridge refurbishments on April 4 to April 7.

Tommy Deans, Bear Scotland’s South East network manager, said: “Everyone who uses the M8 needs to be aware of these three major projects commencing in March and April.

“We usually carry out disruptive works overnight, however the resurfacing project at Polkemmet will be significantly deeper and more comprehensive than normal, therefore we need to close the carriageway for four continuous days.

“Likewise, closures and restrictions will be essential in order to keep drivers and workers safe during major works at Longacre Bridge and the B792 bridge.”

We recently told how thousands of drivers face a 200-mile detour and a four-hour journey due to a major road closure.

Bear Scotland is carrying out essential carriageway resurfacing at Inchree, north of Onich, on the A82.

Works are to get underway on Sunday, March 9 and will run until Tuesday, March 18 between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

Motorists have been informed there is “no alternative route” and those who miss amnesties could be forced on a four-hour – or 200-mile detour.
