‘Best team there ever was’ hail Katie Taylor fans as she reunites with dad Pete in training clip

KATIE Taylor honing her ring craft with dad Pete had fans hailing ‘the best team there ever was’.

Pete had last week proclaimed ‘words can’t express what it means’ while revealing they had trained together for the first time in years.

The pair did become estranged in the run-up to the 2016 Games

And now The Bray Bomber herself has shared a snippet from their session together.

She captioned it by quoting an old mantra of her dad’s, saying: “Once your legs are good everything else is easy @petetaylor_boxing.”

Seeing the Taylor family duo back in the ring together sent her fans into overdrive with excitement.

Paul exclaimed: “The best team there ever was, unbeatable.”

Similarly, Jason labelled them: “Dream Team!”

Honing in on that specific boxing commandment, Alex praised: “Especially the work with the legs, the feet, is the great quality taught by dad to Katie.

“Few boxers among men and none among women have this skill.”

KT and Pete’s relationship has had a complicated history outside of the ring.

She worked relentlessly to build the profile of women’s boxing as an amateur, featuring in Ireland’s first-ever officially sanctioned all-female fight in October 2001.

When she turned professional in the aftermath of her crushing loss at the 2016 Olympics, she officially moved on with current coach Ross Enamait.

In the lead-up to her Madison Square Garden fight with Amanda Serrano in 2022, Taylor acknowledged the impact that that time of her life had on her, particularly preparations for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

She said: “I would describe that whole year as ‘turmoil’, there was a lot of turmoil within our family relationships.

“It is no secret at this stage that myself and my dad parted ways throughout that year and my whole training regime was turned upside down.

“I was going from club to club just trying to get spars here and there.

Eddie Hearn told talkSport earlier today that a round three of Taylor-Serrano in Las Vegas or Croke Park is her most likely next outing[/caption]

“I was sleeping in the car in between sessions and I wasn’t eating properly.

“But I still genuinely believed I was going to win gold and I believed that was my destiny.

“When things don’t pan out the way you hoped and dreamed, you can’t underestimate how heart-breaking that is.

“As an athlete with my mentality, winning is everything and that was easily the lowest point of my career.”

They have reconciled in the years since, however, with Pete quick to congratulate her on her first win over Serrano and publicly advocating for her dream of fighting at Croke Park to become a reality.

That dream remains unfulfilled almost three years though with his words now seeming to be more and more of a pipe dream due to logistical issues between promoter Eddie Hearn and Croke Park chiefs.

He told the Irish Sun back in 2022: “I do think Croke Park will go ahead if enough people call it out. She deserves it at this stage.

“So far she’s had to fight in the UK and America, and all the Irish fans have had to travel all over to see her.

“They should be able to see her fight in her and their own country.”
