These are definitely cool, but the true ancestor of all cool entries was a long time ago, a whole 34 years ago in Dragon Ball Z. And it still remains unmatched—Future Trunks’ debut in Episode 120.
Future Trunks’ arrival was a game-changer
Future Trunks was an enigmatic character. He literally shot down from the sky, looking confident, snarky, and imposing. His introduction wasn’t just cool; it was a defining moment in all of anime history, becoming the standard for future works.

In Dragon Ball Z Episode 120, titled “Another Super Saiyan?”, which aired in Japan on December 11, 1991, Future Trunks made his first appearance. We know that moment now as a turning point in the Dragon Ball lore, but back then, it was a complete mystery.
Who is this stranger who just appeared out of thin air? Why is he challenging Frieza and King Cold? Wait… why is he able to use the Super Saiyan form?! Is he another Saiyan? There were already a million questions racing through the hearts of the fans.
Why Future Trunks’ entrance stands above the rest
Add to that the calm and confident demeanor and the incredible showcase of power, Future Trunks destroyed every anime intro scene at that point and established himself as the number one. That is the reason, even today, with magnificent musical pieces and special effects, we have to give credit where credit’s due.
A young warrior with purple hair, a sword on his back, and a calm yet menacing aura. No one knew who he was, but he exuded confidence and displayed strength to erase Frieza and his subordinates in a few seconds.
Goku is the protagonist and the only Super Saiyan. He struggled to finish Frieza off, so when a Super Saiyan appeared and made short work of the threat they thought was insurmountable, it was a massive shocker. Not just the characters in the series, even the fans, were watching on with mouths agape.
Future Trunks didn’t just make an entrance; he made a statement. This statement was one to be remembered. Trunks impacted the future (ironic, yes) direction of the series with his entrance. His arrival changed the course of Dragon Ball Z, cementing him as one of the most loved characters in the series.
