Andrew Garfield has brought many iconic characters to life, such as the web-slinging Spider-Man or the heroic Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge. But his role in The Social Network as Eduardo Saverin is still remembered after all these years.

David Fincher’s film featured the actual story of Mark Zuckerberg and Saverin and the fallout between these co-founders of Facebook. Now, what does Garfield think about the man he played in the movie, and what are his thoughts on the sequel? Let’s find out!
The Social Network star Andrew Garfield talks about Eduardo Saverin’s lavish life

Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Eduardo Saverin left us all heartbroken while watching The Social Network, as he got sidelined from Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg. But many might not know that it wasn’t the end for Saverin, and he’s living more than comfortably now. In an interview with Esquire, Garfield humorously addressed the same.
People think Eduardo [got] fucked over, but he’s a billionaire in Singapore, and I’m sitting here sweating, talking shit about myself to a bunch of f*cking strangers.
The actor’s statement makes it seem like Saverin is living like a king, but where exactly is he today? Reports from Forbes suggest that Garfield is not wrong at all! As of now, Saverin is worth a staggering $36.8 billion, which puts him in the top 0.00003% of the global population. He is now settled in Singapore as a venture capitalist and holds a valuable stake in Meta (formerly Facebook).
So, Saverin clearly moved past the unfortunate events that unfolded early on in his career. While his character was painted as an underdog in the film, his real-life counterpart is thriving, and Garfield was only trying to highlight the billionaire’s journey with his lighthearted take.
Andrew Garfield’s thoughts about The Social Network sequel

While Eduardo Saverin might be living his best life in Singapore, Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter who wrote The Social Network, isn’t quite done with the story. In an episode of The Town podcast, he spoke about working on a follow-up, specifically about the role that the social media platform allegedly played in the 2021 Capitol Riots (via Variety). Here’s what Andrew Garfield had to say about the prospect of a sequel.
I think anything that Aaron does is going to be really, really powerful and interesting, and if he’s feeling drawn to a subject, you know there’s going to be some juice in it.
And so I’d be excited. I don’t imagine I’d be a part of it because I think Eduardo is just living off his billions in Singapore.
Overall, Garfield’s experience of working with the Oscar-winning writer was pleasant, and he felt it was “like working with one of our great playwrights, you know. It’s heaven.” While the actor may not reprise his role, the idea of a sequel looks promising but also equal parts risky. With Sorkin at the helm, the film would be thought-provoking, only if it were ever to materialize.
You can watch The Social Network on Netflix.
