If you still believe that the Sakamoto Days anime is receiving unnecessary flak, think again. Ever since its debut, the anime has been the center of one controversy after another. The biggest one surrounds its animation quality or lack thereof.

However, plenty of fans still stick to the ideology that Sakamoto Days anime is not as bad as everyone is portraying it to be. Sorry to break the news, but the series isn’t even an apt competitor for anime that aired a decade ago.
Animation lessons from a decade-old under-rated series
The 2015 Gangsta anime is an adaptation of the manga by the same name. It focuses on Nic and Worick, two Handymen who take on shady jobs that no one else is willing to take on. But after they receive a new job request, they come to the realization that it is more than they bargained for.
Its mature and gritty plot has attracted plenty of fans to it, but the storyline was done justice by its animation quality. With detailed character designs, a unique art style, and fight sequences that come alive on screen, Gangsta has everything that can put a number of modern animations to shame.
I do not want to hear anyone praising the mediocrity we’re about to get as an anime adaptation when Gangsta a decade ago looked like this. This is what Sakamoto Days deserve

Pick up any action scene of Gangsta and you would be surprised by how fluid the animation is. The anime has used creative camera angles to keep the audience engaged the brutality of the fights is visible via the impactful hit frames. All in all, it is a pretty good animation despite having aired a decade ago.
A canceled anime has better animation than Sakamoto Days

Despite the gorgeous animation of Gangsta, the anime was never completed. After the release of its 12th episode, Manglobe, the studio that animated the series, announced bankruptcy. Thus, the anime remained incomplete despite the strong reception that it had received.
Sakamoto Days, on the other hand, had plenty of fan support from the very beginning. TMS Entertainment is also a well-known studio that has animated Megalobox, Nomad, Dr. Stone, and many other anime. Thus, the animation quality of Sakamoto Days was unexpectedly tragic. From overuse of still frames to jerky shots and animation shortcuts, the series suffers from lazy animation.
The fact the anime pales in comparison to a decade-old canceled series is a testament to how there are serious issues with its production. Some fans are adamant not to compare Sakamoto Days with Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer since they are top-class series. But what do they have to say about Gangsta, which was created 10 years ago but is still incomparable to TMS Entertainment’s disaster?
The Sakamoto Days anime is currently streaming on Netflix.
