How to Gain Knowledge Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a lot of things to do in its in-game re-creation of feudal Japan, borrowing across multiple RPG elements for the same. The game features skill points which can be used to further progress through the masteries of both Naoe and Yasuke.

Much like skill points, Knowledge Points in Assassin’s Creed Shadows are an added layer of complexity, used to progressively unlock certain nodes. This is quite different from your usual mastery skill points, requiring a fair bit of grinding to obtain them.

How to increase Knowledge Ranks in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

There are a total of six knowledge ranks or tiers, which can be unlocked using knowledge points. Each knowledge rank includes an additional row of skills for both Yasuke and Naoe (6 for each), which when accessible can be unlocked using mastery points.

With that in mind, in order to earn knowledge points (and thereby increase your knowledge rank), players will have to complete in-game activities. These activities range from unlocking specific regions to completing certain side quests and/or challenges – all to upgrade your character.

Here is a list of all the known ways to obtain knowledge points, and boost your knowledge rank:

  • Temples
  • Shrines
  • Kofuns
  • Meditation Spots
  • Hidden Trails
  • Kata
  • Horseback Archery

Of these, Temples are a shared activity for both Naoe and Yasuke. Simply collect all the Lost Pages of a Temple in order to unlock a Knowledge Point. Temples may often require battling enemies.

Similarly, Shrines can also be completed by both Yasuke and Naoe, and requires praying within three specific sites (or altars) in order to unlock a Knowledge Point. This is relatively simple and a lot less involved when compared to Temples.

Kofuns are a bit of an oddity here, as they have specific sites where only one of the two characters can enter. Each Kofun is unique, possessing its own set of puzzles with very different interactions. Exploring a Kofun will reward players with a Knowledge Point, as well as a Legendary Chest.

Meanwhile, the Kuji Kiri is accessible by Naoe only. To participate, players will have to partake in a rhythm-based memory game of sorts, pressing buttons in sequence. Completing this also awards a point, along with some added context toward Naoe’s story.

Another of Naoe’s side quests involves the Hidden Trails, which is a parkour test of sorts. Simply complete the gauntlet in order to gain a Knowledge Point, as well as a Legendary Chest.

Yasuke on the other hand, has Kata to complete. In short, players must partake in a QTE sequence of sorts, which gets progressively more difficult. There is no room for error here though, as even a single wrong move will result in a reset.

Horseback Archery is also another activity that is exclusive to Yasuke. As the name implies, players will have to hit targets while on horseback, which can be a bit challenging. Assuming one meets the requisite score cap, they will be rewarded with a Knowledge Point.
