The extensively stretched-out lore of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has featured a long list of characters who have proven themselves useful to the overall stories, and while some of them have concluded their roles, I believe there are some who will make a return at some point in the future. One such character who is more or less going to be a part of the final saga will be Charlotte Katakuri.
One of the greatest villains in the history of One Piece, Charlotte Katakuri, is one of my favorite characters, who has shown great potential and had great character development during the Whole Cake Island arc. In fact, his enticing battle with Luffy is one of the best fights the One Piece protagonist has ever had in his entire journey as a pirate.
And while fans eagerly await Katakuri’s return, the one question that has been bugging me is who will be the ideal opponent for Katakuri in the final war. There is a possibility that he might join the fight against the Marines and the World Government, and thus according to me, the best opponent for him would be Ryokugyu, the new Admiral in One Piece.
Charlotte Katakuri’s return is inevitable
One of the Three Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates, Charlotte Katakuri, was a well-written character who excelled in his role in more than one aspect of One Piece. I liked the way how his brooding personality perfectly coincided with his backstory and his fighting style, making him a worthy opponent for Luffy, even though he was not the main villain of the arc.
His battle with Luffy was one of the most thrilling moments in the history of One Piece for me, but his development within the story unofficially confirmed that he would make a return to the series. Plus, his past and the ongoing plot progression of the Big Mom pirates indicate that he will have to lead them and probably make them a better pirate crew.
I am convinced that Katakuri’s return to the final war is inevitable, but there are a few questions that surround his return. The first one is which side he will take in the battle and whether or not Big Mom will be leading him and the other members of the crew or not. These questions will define Katakuri’s significance in the One Piece final war.
The perfect opponent for Katakuri in the final One Piece war
Although Katakuri will make a comeback, I feel like this time, he will side with Luffy and take on the war against the World Government and Marines. Thus, in this situation, the perfect opponent for him would be Ryokugyu, also known as Aramaki or Greenbull in One Piece. There are multiple reasons that support this speculation, and the first one is their abilities.
Ryokugyu has the powers of Mori Mori no Mi along with Armament and Observation Haki. Katakuri, on the other hand, has the power of Mochi Mochi no Mi along with all three Haki techniques and the advanced version of Observation Haki. Thus, what Katakuri lacks in terms of Devil Fruits, he makes up for with Haki techniques.
Plus, Ryokugyu’s attacks are more direct and more physical, which perfectly aligns with Katakuri’s fighting style in One Piece. Another aspect that makes them perfect opponents during the final war, is that Katakuri’s shift in character could work well with Ryokugyu’s inherently evil persona and thus make their battle in One Piece even more interesting.
