The trailer for Netflix’s Devil May Cry has made it clear that the series will be paying homage to the lore of the video games by showing us things like the Force Edge, the Perfect Amulet, and the bosses from the video games.
After seeing all these amazing details, fans are wondering about what else could be featured in the series. We in particular are wondering about which other bosses may show up, with the focus on one particular blob.

Nightmare was a true nightmare in Devil May Cry
Those who have played the original Devil May Cry will remember entering the defiled Cathedral and encountering a strange, mucus-like liquid on the floor. Upon interacting with the liquid, it is revealed that the liquid is alive and has several bones floating in it.

This is Dante’s first encounter with Nightmare, the bio-weapon created by Mundus to kill the demon hunter himself. The creature attacks Dante by constantly switching its forms. While in the liquid form, Nightmare is quite slow and attempts to attack Dante by surrounding him and dragging him into a separate dimension.
Here, Dante will have to defeat the various floating skulls that come across his path, along with the boss that spawns later. Once he has done so, he is thrown back out.

Nightmare can also swirl itself around Dante and attack him by oozing out a liquid that deals damage when he comes in contact with it. While the pattern may seem simple enough, Nightmare is indestructible in its liquid state, and Dante needs to use one of the four wheels in the room to attack it.
Using the wheels causes the blob to take on a solid structure, allowing it to stab Dante, shoot missiles at him, and even siphon away the energy stored in the Devil Trigger gauge.
While the attack pattern of Nightmare in Devil May Cry is fairly mechanical and simple, taking note of its cores and their colors and scaling damage accordingly requires quite a bit of concentration, and it can be quite frustrating.
This, combined with the fact that the player has to find Nightmare 3 separate times in 3 separate missions, is truly a nightmare.
Could it appear in Netflix’s Devil May Cry?

From what we have seen of Netflix’s Devil May Cry from its trailer, opening credits, and clips, it is apparent that the series by Adi Shankar is going to take a lot of elements from the Devil May Cry video games.
Reports suggest that the series could be set in the early 2000s/PS2 era and fans are expecting the series to adapt a lot of things from the canon lore of the earlier games, but at the same time, there will be many differences.

The trailer for the series has already shown us that bosses from the video games will be making an appearance in the show. Some of these bosses are Rudra, Agni, Echidna, and Cavaliere Angelo, the artificial demon.

Judging by this, we would say that there is a decent chance of the blo-, err, Nightmare returning to haunt Dante in the anime. Since Mundus appeared in the opening credits of the series, there is a strong chance that Nightmare, his creation, could also appear in the series.
Perhaps the Perfect Amulet that we see White Rabbit using in the Devil May Cry trailer will come into play in its introduction.
While there is no confirmed news of its appearance, if it were to appear in the anime, it would get Dante in huge trouble due to its invulnerability because we are pretty sure that the anime won’t have conveniently placed wheels on the walls for Dante to use (Also, anime Dante can’t spam Ifrit since he doesn’t have the Devil Arm).
Devil May Cry will be available to stream on Netflix from 3 April 2025.
