M'sians To Have 50% Off Tolls For Hari Raya On Mar 28 & 29

If you’re planning to hit the highway this Hari Raya, here’s something to smile about — the government has announced a 50% toll discount for all Class 1 private vehicles in conjunction with the festive season.

According to the Stars, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated the decision was approved by the Cabinet as part of the government’s MADANI initiative to help ease the financial burden on road users.

The 50% discount will be in effect from 12.01 am on Friday (28 Mar) until 11.59 pm on Saturday (Mar 29) — that’s two whole days of savings for travellers heading home for Raya.

Who is eligible?

The toll discount applies to Class 1 private vehicles at all toll plazas nationwide, except for those located at the country’s borders:

  • Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway
  • Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway (Linkedua)

What’s the cost to the government?

The initiative will cost the MADANI government around RM19.69 million in compensation to toll concessionaires. According to Nanta, it’s part of their ongoing effort to prioritise the rakyat’s well-being by making festive travel more affordable.

This isn’t a one-off move. The toll discount continues the festive toll relief programme first introduced in 2023, which offers similar discounts during all four major festive seasons — including Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Christmas.

Drive safe, drivers

Nanta reminded all drivers to plan their journeys wisely to avoid traffic congestion and ensure a smooth balik kampung experience. He also shared some important reminders:

  • Follow travel time advisories issued by highway concessionaires
  • Make sure vehicles are in good condition
  • Ensure enough balance in Touch ‘n Go cards or eWallets
  • Charge your SmartTAG in advance
  • Get real-time traffic updates via the LLM CCTV links at www.llm.gov.my

For assistance or the latest updates, commuters can also contact the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752, or check their official Facebook Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia and X page (@LLMtrafik).

Nanta also urged everyone to drive safely, follow traffic rules, and take breaks when needed to avoid fatigue. “Let’s work together to maintain safety, cleanliness, and comfort on our highways,” he said.

So whether you’re heading back to your hometown or going on a short getaway — don’t forget to enjoy the discount, drive responsibly, and have a safe journey.
