Chapter 1144 of One Piece’s manga hasn’t been released yet, but its events have been teased. The cover continues Yamato’s story and depicts him defeating Who’s-Who’s crew after he rescued Ulti and Page One. Back on Elbaph, the giants are still struggling to free the children.
The nightmares that Rimoshifu Killingham’s Devil Fruit has manifested seem to be the focus of the battle at the moment. The giants struggle against these almost supernatural forces. It seems like the God’s Knights won’t give Elbaph a proper break, but the tides may change.

Chapter 1144 prepares us for an intense fight, with Emet 2.0 and Gaban joining the Straw Hats
Colon, who you might remember is Scopper Gaban and Ripley’s son, defies his ban and sneaks off to bring the rest of the Straw Hats to the fight. Jinbe, Usopp, Brook, and Nami are back in the game.
Meanwhile, Ripley shows Franky a 3000-year-old giant robot. While we have no visual of this ancient robot yet, we can only imagine it mirrors Emet in a way. Will this one also recognize Luffy unleashing Joy Boy’s Haki and arise, or, since it’s older, perhaps Nika?

Gear 5 seems inevitable in this fight. Dorry and Brogy might have defeated quite a few of the nightmare monsters, but more remain, and there’s still the question of the actual God’s Knights who are making this happen. The children still need to be freed from Sommers’ thorns.
This chapter, however, reveals that Gunko is a massive fan of Brook’s music. Many fans have taken this as a hint that she might ally with the Straw Hats instead since she seems like the only knight without a Celestial Dragon heritage.

Now that he is fighting with them against the God’s Knights, it’ll be different. He doesn’t wield those axes, nor was he Gol D. Roger’s left-hand man for no reason.
Oda reminds us to expect the unexpected in One Piece
This chapter has added some of the most random details in One Piece so far. An ancient robot, other than Emet, wasn’t expected. Franky is experiencing quite a lot of the lore on Elbaph more than the other Straw Hats, which were shown in the mural earlier.
The characterization of Gunko seems to be taking a turn. However, we don’t know the consequences of leaving God’s Knights, especially when she’s marked. She doesn’t exactly have a young boy to sacrifice an arm for like Shanks did.
Chapter 1144 will be released on March 31, 2025. We might receive more details before that, but this suggests a tough fight is coming.
