Matlock has been missing from its usual TV time slot for a little while and fans are curious to know if the show will be returning to CBS soon.
Is ‘Matlock’ Coming Back?
Yes, Matlock will be coming back to CBS. Unfortunately, Matlock fans will have to wait just a bit longer, as the 2025 NCAA men’s Division I basketball tournament is currently taking place, bumping the show from its regularly scheduled time. This forced Matlock to take a two-week hiatus from airing its episodes while basketball airs in its place. Bu rest assured, the hiatus will be over soon.
When Will ‘Matlock’ Return?
Matlock will be returning with a new episode on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at its usual time, 9 p.m. ET on CBS. The episode is titled “The Johnson Case.”
“Olympia tries to impress the partnership board by taking on a complicated murder case, on MATLOCK,” the logline of the episode said, via a press release from CBS.
Another new episode will follow on Thursday, April 10, 2025, called “I Was That, Too.”
The synopsis for the episode said, “A pregnant woman asks for Olympia’s help obtaining a divorce from her husband, whose family is a client of the firm.”
Matlock was not the only series affected by the sporting event. Additionally, Elsbeth was also impacted by the basketball tournament, with the first round taking place from March 20 through March 21. Elsbeth will be returning to the CBS lineup with a new episode on April 3, 2025, called “Hot Tub Crime Machine.”
CBS Released Details About the Season 1 Matlock Finale
In addition to the premise of the April 3, 2025, episode, CBS shared some information about what to expect from the show’s season 1 finale. The finale will be two hours long, giving fans double the excitement.
“Tricks of the Trade – Part One” and “Tricks of the Trade – Part Two” are the two titles given for each hour of the finale.
“When Sarah’s client is arrested after his business partner is found murdered, Billy attempts to help her handle the case while Matty and Olympia contend with a pressing confidential matter, on a special two-hour first season finale of the CBS Original Series MATLOCK, Thursday, April 17 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs),” the logline for the finale said.
Creator Jennie Snyder Urman dished on what’s to come for Matty in the show’s April 17 finale.
“The central tension of the series is that she went in with one mission and then, all of a sudden, she started to like all these people and it became much more difficult,” she told TV Insider ahead of the episode. “She imagined pulling this off [more easily], but now she’s started to form these relationships. It’s become way more difficult.”
Viewers can expect some major twists thrown in along the way. “You get the answer to that central question, and then, we push forward into the next season,” she explained.
The show has already been renewed for season 2.
