Jenna Bush Hager — who shares kids Mila, Poppy, and Hal with husband Henry Hager — just got perfectly candid about having sex as a parent on a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends. And though guest co-host and mom of two Olivia Munn was not necessarily on the same page, we’re sure plenty of viewers felt seen.
The two were chatting about the idea of scheduling a time to have sex (specifically in reference to Maury Povich and his wife possibly revealing they have an intimacy schedule of their own), when Munn turned to Hager and asked if she ever does that. “Do you schedule? Do you schedule? Do you schedule?” Munn asked, making people in the studio laugh and Hager blush.
“Now, here’s the thing,” Hager started. “When you have multiple children, you’ll see, sometimes you have to, like, you kind of have to.”
“And I don’t love it, but otherwise, then it doesn’t happen the way it used to,” the mom of three continued, per People. “Because there’s people everywhere pulling on you.”
Munn nodded along, making a seemingly noncommital “mm-hm” sound as Hager confessed. When Hager turned the tables and asked Munn — who shares kids Malcom and Méi with husband John Mulaney — if they had a timeline for the hanky panky, Munn mimed zipping her lips.
“You’re still newly-weddy,” Jenna added as Munn continued her monotone mm-hming. “ … Just call me when you’re putting on Frozen for the 14th time.”
Munn insisted she wasn’t judging before returning to her wide-eyed silence which prompted Hager to say the actress isn’t talking.
Munn then explained that she doesn’t want to overshare or say the wrong thing about her life with Mulaney after previous indescretions with previous partners landed her in hot water. And that’s fair enough! She’s allowed to want to keep her cards close to her chest.
We do have a few more questions for Hager, though. When you say you schedule it, is that a loose date in your mind? Or do you have it locked and loaded in your phone calendar or the one on the fridge? If the latter, what do you write? Do you have a code phrase like Zoe Saldaña and husband Marco Perego-Saldaña have for when they want to have “sexy time?”
“We ‘play LEGOs naked,’” Perego said when he and his wife appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show. We can’t say it’s the most subtle phrasing, but it’s something! And who knows, maybe rather than saying it out loud with their sons within earshot, they should try writing it on a calendar instead.
