TBATE, aka The Beginning After the End’s anime adaptation, has stunned fans beyond belief. Unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. While the manhwa provided a relief from the same old Isekai spiel, the anime has somehow surpassed even the most generic Isekai shows in terrible animation.
To say fans aren’t happy would be an understatement. In fact, the animation is so terrible that it makes even the recently concluded Jeju Island Arc of Solo Leveling seem like a masterpiece in comparison.

TBATE makes even Solo Leveling’s Jeju Island Arc seem like a masterpiece
The anime industry seems set on ruining every good series these days. As if butchering Sakamoto Days wasn’t enough, they’ve now ruined the one thing the current reigning king of shonen, Solo Leveling, had going for itself.
Really, one has to witness how an animation studio slaughters its cash cow by how A-1 Pictures treated the most anticipated Jeju Island Island Arc with each episode.
After a good one-and-a-half season run, fans were expecting that Solo Leveling would maintain its momentum throughout the rest of Season 2 with the magnificent fights the Jeju Island Arc boasts. However, as if desperately following a trend, the studio managed to drown fans’ hopes in one go.
Incidentally, though, there is another series that recently started airing that surpasses even that with just one episode. That is, of course, The Beginning After the End. As one of the most popular Isekai manhwa, and for good reasons, fans were hoping that TBATE would finally revive the Isekai genre after the Ls it has taken over the last few years.
However, Studio A-Cat proved its worth in salt by dousing fans’ hopes in a dumpster fire, the impact of which the fandom will remember for a long time. The story follows King Grey as he reincarnates into a magical world as Arthur Leywin with the memories of his last life intact.
Once a battle-hardened and fierce leader, his new life makes him understand the mistakes of his past and urges him to live a peaceful, kind, and sincere life surrounded by his loved ones. That is, until his country suddenly finds itself at the brink of a war that digs out the old, buried ghosts of Arthur’s past to the present.
As the story progresses further, Arthur learns that he didn’t reincarnate into this world by chance. Moreover, he wasn’t the only one to do so. Filled with symbolism, a clash of ideologies, and a redemption arc filled with bloodshed and devastation, The Beginning After the End takes the common Isekai trope for a spin.
It also provides readers a chance for self-reflection as they bear witness to Arthur struggling to maintain his sanity as past and present collide in a bloody battle. As such, the anticipation for such a story getting an anime adaptation has been off the charts in the fandom. After that first episode, though, fans aren’t really holding their breaths.
Fans start a hilarious thread to show their disappointment over The Beginning After the End anime
TBATE Manhwa provides a fresh breath of relief from the current situation of the Isekai genre, which is overrun with the same old spiel on repeat. Hence, fans getting disappointed over the mess of the first episode is quite understandable. As it stands, they are certainly not holding back from sharing their opinions on the matter by any means.

For example, in a recent discussion on the r/manhwa subreddit, a user asked others what they thought of the episode. This started a hilarious thread of fans coming up with their innovative spins on the TBATE‘s title to show just how disheartened they felt about it.

It’ll be interesting to see if, by any stroke of luck, Studio A-CAT heeds fans’ opinions and puts in the work to turn TBATE around. There is a chance that they are saving their best efforts for the battle sequences in the story.
However, as they come quite late in the Manhwa, it’s hard to tell if the fans will remain patient until then. Regardless, only time will tell what the future holds. For now, though, most fans seem to have given up hope.
The Beginning After the End and Solo Leveling are both streaming on Crunchyroll.
