Powell revealed at the film’s presentation at CinemaCon that Cruise had some incredible advice for him when he called him about The Running Man. He said (via Variety),

Film yourself running as soon as possible. You don’t look as cool as you think you do…He’s a guy that doesn’t hide his excitement about what this means, you know, the theatrical experience, and working hard and investing and putting your body on the line to entertain audiences.

Director Edgar Wright also stressed the importance of the theatrical experience and how, as a filmmaker, he hopes to always get back and recreate the emotion he felt while watching a movie in the cinema.

It has been four years since Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho was released, and the maverick filmmaker is back with another genre film. Based on Stephen King’s novel, which he wrote under the pen name Richard Bachman, The Running Man is set in a dystopian world where people participate in a televised game of survival to win a cash prize.

The film was already made once, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Wright reportedly claimed that his remake was more in line with King’s novel than with the movie. Glen Powell reportedly did his own stunts and spoke about his experience with the film at CinemaCon(via Deadline),

Probably what I get for asking Tom Cruise for advice on using a stunt double… Now that I’ve gone through fire, I can say I’ve never worked harder on a movie in my life.

The team debuted a teaser trailer for the film, which reportedly wrapped filming only a week prior to its CinemaCon presentation. Other actors include Katy O’Brian, Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, and Colman Domingo.

The Running Man is set to be released in cinemas on November 7, 2025.
