Dragon Ball series is a legacy series; the author, Akira Toriyama, wanted it to be an epic that could encompass multiple generations. He wished for Goku to disappear and Gohan to take his place as the protagonist of the Dragon Ball series after Dragon Ball Z.
This only goes to show how special Gohan was and how much attention was placed upon him, even a long time back. Gohan is an anomaly and could go toe-to-toe against Cell when he was just a child, unlocking his Super Saiyan abilities despite not being a full-blooded Saiyan.

Gohan has unlocked unique forms like Beast Gohan and Ultimate Gohan, which show that he has unlimited potential he has. This could mean that he is destined for a greater spot in the narrative, like being the next God of Destruction.
Gohan is innately suited to being a God of Destruction
In Universe 7, Beerus is the current God of Destruction. But the millions-of-years-old Sphinx cat has asked the Z fighters multiple times if they wanted to be a God of Destruction. This is the same for Goku and Vegeta, who have both rejected it.
Beerus seems to have thought that Vegeta is a better fit for the destruction energy, and considering his rage (Vegeta fought Beerus when he slapped Bulma), he would have been a great first and taught him the Ultra Ego.
But Vegeta only wants to stay home with his family and spend his life peacefully, so who would be a candidate for the position of the next God of Destruction, succeeding Beerus?
The answer isn’t particularly hard. It is Gohan; he has always been the anomaly among Saiyans. Unlike Goku and Vegeta, who constantly seek strength, he only fights when absolutely necessary.
He is patient, yet his anger is palpable when he transforms into a Super Saiyan or unleashes his Beast Gohan mode. It is clear that Gohan is more mature and cool-headed than his dad and Vegeta. Not to mention he has the Ki control of the humans and the immense strength of the Saiyans.
Gohan’s power complements Beerus’s ideals
His Beast Gohan mode is proof of how much affinity he possesses for destruction. All of this points to the fact that Beerus should start considering the Saiyans a generation lower than he previously was.

With a bit of training from Beerus, Gohan could unleash new levels of his power, far surpassing Goku in his Ultra Instinct form. Even though Gohan might not be inclined to take over the position, he understands responsibility, and if Beerus steps down or needs someone to take over, he would not act unwisely and reject the position.
His Beast Gohan form embodies raw destructive energy yet remains untamed. If it was combined with the complete control over the Hakai energy that a God of Destruction has, then Gohan might be able to compete with those on the divine hierarchy. Whis could further help refine Gohan’s power as well, considering his relationship with Goku and the Z fighters.
Unlike Vegeta, whose growth is driven by his ego and pride, Gohan’s transformation into a God of Destruction would be about necessity and responsibility. If Universe 7 ever faced a divine-level crisis, Gohan would step up and tackle it.
