With any big-budget IP movie, there is now an expectation of the post-credit scene. Given the size of A Minecraft Movie and the excitement it has created for many looking to see the larger world come to life, our bet was on there being at least one. Lucky for us, there are actually two post-credit scenes in A Minecraft Movie, with each one appealing to different audiences.

Does A Minecraft Movie have a post-credits scene?
Yes, A Minecraft Movie has both a mid-credits and a post-credits scene.
Mid-Credit/Simultaneous with the Credits — Scene One
At the end of A Minecraft Movie, our heroes have all returned to the real world, creating a fun, found-family vibe. However, they were not the only characters who came to the “real world,” with a Villager wandering through a portal earlier in the film. The Villager steps out onto the road, where he is hit by a Jeep Cherokee, driven by none other than Vice Principal Marlene (played by Jennifer Coolidge).
Over the rest of the night, the two have a fun night out, and the Vice Principal thinks she is falling in love after her divorce. The Villager responds affirmatively, only nodding and smiling at her while speaking in short, gibberish sentences. During the credits, we revisit Vice Principal Marlene’s office, where the Villager also stands. When her ex-husband, Mr. Gunchie (Hiram Garcia), comes to ask about her new lover, the Villager speaks in a boisterous British accent belonging to none other than Matt Berry.
For those unaware, Matt Berry is the Emmy-nominated star of What We Do in the Shadows, earning considerable credit as the most quotable member of that cast. He also starred in several cult comedies from the United Kingdom, including The I.T. Crowd (from Series 2 onward) and Toast of London. In recent years, the comedian has also received considerable fame for his incredible line readings, making him a godsend for TikTok and social media as his profile has grown.
When the Villager finally speaks, he discusses his love for the Vice Principal, admitting that he was lovestruck throughout the dinner. He was so in love, that he was actually rendered speechless. However, their love was so grand, that they have transcended language barriers, which allows Coolidge to speak in Villager as well. They pronounce their love once more before the ex-husband storms out of the office.

A Minecraft Movie is just the start of an expanded series — Scene 2.
As a true post-credit scene, A Minecraft Movie follows Steve (Jack Black) to his old house. There, he knocks on the front door, and a woman with red hair answers the door. Steve introduces himself and tells the woman that he used to live in her house. She acknowledges the possibility that he left some things, including a chest upstairs. She then introduces herself as Alex, before the screen cuts to black.
After Minecraft was released in 2009, the Steve character became the standard player character for years. However, as more games included starting characters of both genders, a move toward inclusion also came to Minecraft. In 2014, Alex was introduced as a new skin for the main character, which brought women into the game. As only the second skin, Alex became extremely popular, and over time, there have been many Alex and Steve pairings in press materials. While there are now nine total skins for users to choose from, the original two remain the most popular.
It is very clear that there will be more Minecraft features if the series hits benchmarks with its first outing. With tracking putting A Minecraft Movie well over $70 million in its first weekend, there seems to be little chance of the franchise going dormant now that it has started. Introducing Alex is a clear move for the future, and with only the back of her head, they can still cast any actress they’d like in the role (though Alice May Connolly is credited as ‘Alex Double’).

Another huge benefit for Alex is that she’s already expanded beyond the Minecraft franchise. Steve is an official, playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but if you change out his skin, Alex becomes a playable character. While this option was only available as part of a DLC pack, it proves her value as a character in the minds of the Super Smash Bros. designers. Additionally, she’s appeared in several books and shorts created to celebrate the game. In any case, Alex was a must-have character for the future of Minecraft as a film franchise, and her introduction in the post-credit scene is a sign of things to come.
