“You guys need to have balls again”: Bill Burr Tells Journalists to Man Up After They Goad Him With Questions About Elon Musk

Bill Burr knows a thing or two about courting controversies. The comedian, who has made it clear more than once that he is as outspoken as they come, has never shied away from speaking his heart out. And that has more often than not landed him in trouble.

Be it his SNL monologue back in 2020 or his defence of co-star Gina Carano, he has always attracted the ire of many people around the world. He did not shy away from clapping back at journalists after they posed him questions about Elon Musk.

Many believe that Bill Burr sides with Elon Musk (on certain issues)

While Elon Musk‘s DOGE has been going about their business at a rapid pace, there are some voices that hint that the businessman could very soon take a step back, returning to his business ventures.

While the news might come as a succor to many government officials, it can not be denied that Musk has already made his mark. The Tesla CEO has upended the entire bureaucracy, shut down numerous departments, and laid back innumerable government employees.

The DOGE juggernaut really has been something. And it has split the US public into two sections – one that is decrying a businessman’s intervention in the polity, and the other that is hailing the eccentric billionaire for his antics.

Bill Burr and Jimmy Kimmel created quite the show!

While Bill Burr doesn’t have a decisive stance on the issue, he is more likely to tilt towards the latter. Bill Burr has on times been found supporting Musk (though not expressly), including by his defense of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The manner in which Bill Burr didn’t hold back in pointing the structural issues with the insurance regime many believed aligned with Musk’s sentiments. No wonder many Musk supporters have been claiming that the 56-year-old is just another ally.

While Burr has refused to take a definitive stance, he has been plagued by questions. The 2025 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor ceremony was no different.

Showing up to the ceremony to voice his support for pal Conan O’ Brien, who was being honored, one of the first questions posed to Burr was his stance on the Free Luigi movement. And it is safe to say that he pretty much lost it. He said,

I don’t think you read up on it because I said what I felt about it, and I said what a lot of people said. (Page Six)

The questions didn’t stop there. He would be further questioned about his stance on Elon Musk’s role in the government. The comedian, in a no-nonsense mood, said,

I don’t watch the news! I have no idea what’s going on. I don’t think you should be asking a comedian. You’re a journalist.

Things got heated when the journalists retorted that comedians are normally in tune with whatever is happening in the world. That is when Burr went all out. He said,

That’s you guys passing the buck. You guys need to have balls again — which you don’t. You guys always go, ‘Should we be thinking this?’ You guys present stuff like that. You guys used to have balls. You need to get your balls back. And it’s not my job. I am a dancing clown.

While the comments were made with the intent to dismiss the topic, they seem to have stuck. Looks like Burr failed to keep the noise down even when he wanted to.
