Before today, we might’ve still thought of Robert Irwin as the goofy and charismatic son of the late Steve Irwin. But, considering that a new steamy campaign of his is going viral online, it’s safe to say the world will be changing its opinion on him very soon.
In the campaign for the Australian underwear brand Bonds, the 21-year-old is seen showing off his toned body in just his underwear, varying from their black, white, gray and green styles. In each picture, he’s also posing with an Australian animal, including two species of snakes, a spider, and a lizard.
“Say g’day to our new brand icon, Robert Irwin, like you’ve never seen him before,” the brand wrote in the caption for the sizzling campaign photos. “Who better to rep comfy down under than the Aussie wildlife legend himself 🐨.”
Understandably, fans of the conservationist are in shock over the photos. “Now everyone say “Thankyooouuuuuu Bonnddddsssssss” 👏👏👏” wrote one user on Instagram. “I think I just fainted 🥵,” echoed another commenter. “Rob, my wife is on instagram, mate,” joked another user. “Please.”
Speaking to People about the campaign, the TV personality admitted that getting down to his underwear was a no-brainer.
“I wish I could say I was very suave and cool about the whole thing, but I was like, ‘Yes! Let’s do it!’ Because Bonds in Australia is an absolute icon,” he told the outlet. “Also, I’m at this point in my life where I’m trying to do as many different and random exciting things, and if it’s something that makes me a little bit nervous, that I’ve never done before and it’s a bit of an adrenaline rush? That’s what I want to be doing.”
Plus, he was fully onboard with the direction of the shoot. After all, interacting with animals like these is his full-time job. “I mean, I’ve spent my life wrangling crocs and snakes and rescuing animals. And so to feature a little slice of that excitement in this new campaign, mate, it has been so much fun,” he admitted. “I mean, I’m surrounded by spiders and snakes except [this time] I’m in my undies. That’s the only difference.”
Before the shoot, Irwin worked on perfecting his physique. “I wanted to look my best and to feel my best and just feel really confident,” he said. “And so I’ve done more sit-ups and had less carbs than I ever have in my life, but it’s been fun.”
Not only that, but his family was fully by his side. According to him, his mom Terri, his sister Bindi and his brother-in-law Chandler Powell were all there for him.
“My brother-in-law Chandler, he’s a professional athlete, so he gave me a lot of great tips,” he said. “And my mom actually did bodybuilding! She had more biceps then than I’ll ever have!”
“My family are so supportive, I just love them so much,” he gushed. “They’re the solid foundation to everything I do and what we’re doing together.” We love to see it!
