‘My dad cried twice’ – Fan reveals Roy Keane’s ‘kindest gesture’ amid his father’s dementia battle

ROY Keane has been hailed for his ‘kindest gesture’ towards an elderly fan battling dementia.

Cork-based Rob O’Sullivan relayed the story of how Keane went above and beyond to cheer his dad Pat up as he stays in the Mercy Hospital.

So for Roy to walk in to greet him meant the world to Pat as well as Rob himself[/caption]

Rob rang in to Cork’s Red FM to express his gratitude after the radio station’s breakfast show had put feelers out to Keane about doing something for O’Sullivan senior.

However, the Man United legend surpassed everyone’s expectations.

Instead of simply sending a video or text message Pat’s way, the 53-year-old flew home to his native county and paid a visit in person at the hospital Mr O’Sullivan is being treated at.

Telling how much the visit had meant to his dad, Rob emphasised: “Roy Keane walked into my dad’s hospital room and shook his hand. I have no words.

“I don’t know what I was ever expecting out of it, and that’s being honest.

“But for him to come and visit, take time out of his schedule, to see my dad and go back and forth trading stories.

“You have absolutely no idea (how much that meant). It still feels like a dream.

“When I looked at him, I was in awe. I couldn’t believe he was right in front of me and about to make my dad’s dream come true.

On the meeting between the Ireland icon and his dad, Rob underlined: “My dad cried twice. He fully understood Roy was there.

“Since I last spoke to you guys, my dad’s speech has actually gone really bad.

“So the timing was perfect since he and Roy could actually have a bit of a conversation.

“My dad looked at him, stared at him and just couldn’t believe his hero was there sat next to him.”

He then shared that they had savoured a drink together in a further beautiful moment for Pat and Rob to cherish.

Reflecting on how they had brought Keano and the O’Sullivans together, the radio station hailed: “ROY KEANE’S KINDEST GESTURE.

“@kcshowcork received a message from listener Rob O’Sullivan who contacted the show in the hope of getting a message to Roy Keane for his dad, Pat, who has dementia and is currently in care in the Mercy Hospital.

“BUT WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS ROY KEANE’S KINDEST MOMENT…”

The segment ended up moving many listeners to tears.

Megan Corcoran praised: “Bawled my eyes out listening to this this morning.

“What a lovely outcome for this man making his dreams come true so happy for them all.”

While Amy Carr added: “This is why he is an absolute diamond.”
