I’ll say it – Taylor Sheridan’s been running wild with his Yellowstone empire, and not always in a good way. Sure, 1923’s great, but do we really need a million spinoffs and endless budget battles? Apparently, Paramount finally agrees.
After all the drama with 1923 Season 2, they’re putting some guardrails on Sheridan’s creative playground, and truth be told? It’s about time.

That’s why Landman actually has a shot at being something fresh, because for once, he won’t have unchecked control. Less indulgence, more focus. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the Sheridan project that doesn’t spiral into chaos.
Why cutting Taylor Sheridan’s budget might actually save his storytelling

Taylor Sheridan’s been living the Hollywood dream – unlimited budgets, endless spinoffs, and complete creative control. But after 1923 Season 2, Paramount’s finally pumping the brakes. The streaming giant’s slashing budgets, and while Sheridan ain’t thrilled, this could be the best thing to happen to his storytelling in years.
Why? Because TS thrives when he has to get scrappy. Just look at Sicario and Hell or High Water — brilliant scripts made under tight constraints. When he has unlimited money, things tend to spiral (Yellowstone Season 5, anyone?).
So, what’s going on? Paramount’s new owner, David Ellison, and streaming chief Cindy Holland want to rein in costs. They’re aiming for $9M per episode, while Sheridan’s shows typically burn through $12-16M. That means Landman won’t have an endless checkbook (via Screenrant).
And that’s actually great news. With a leaner budget, Sheridan will have to prioritize tight scripts, smart character work, and efficient storytelling over sweeping montages and extravagant cowboy aesthetics.
Of course, this shift raises a big question: Will Sheridan stick around? His Paramount deal’s up in 2027, and if another streamer waves a bigger paycheck, he could bolt. That’d be a disaster for Paramount+, which relies heavily on his shows to stay relevant. But he could also use a fresh challenge.
For now, though, I’m cautiously optimistic. A restrained Sheridan might be the best Sheridan. If Landman is any indication, we could finally get a series that leans on his best instincts rather than his biggest budget.
Demi Moore levels up in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman season 2 as filming kicks off

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman is drilling deeper into season 2, and this time, Demi Moore’s stepping into a bigger spotlight.
Paramount+ just announced that filming is underway for the next chapter of the hit drama, which became a breakout success last fall. Billy Bob Thornton returns as the oil exec navigating the high-stakes world of West Texas drilling, but this time, Moore, fresh off her Oscar-nominated turn in The Substance, is stepping up.
Moore played Cami, the sidelined wife of Jon Hamm’s oil tycoon, in season 1. But now, she’s second-billed behind Thornton. Co-creator Christian Wallace told Variety,
There is a lot more story left to tell with Cami. Taylor has big plans, that’s all I’m going to say.
The star-studded cast also includes Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph.
1923 and Landman are available to watch on Paramount Plus & Apple TV+.
