The convicted fraudster was previously welcomed onto the board at Dundee FC in 2003, using his time to attempt to persuade both Edgar Davids and Paul Gascoigne to sign.
And now with his story having been recently retold in an Apple TV documentary he says he’s launching a bid for the majority stake controlled by Tim Keyes’ Football Partners Scotland L.P group.
Pointing out that Dundee are currently positioned 11th of the 12 teams in the Scottish Premiership and potentially face a relegation playoff to maintain their status, he says he believes the club “can do better”.
He wrote: “As of March 30, 2025, Dundee FC is positioned 11th of 12 in the @ScottishPremier standings, having accumulated 31 points from 31 matches. This places them in the relegation playoff spot, narrowly trailing @KilmarnockFC , who are 10th with 32 points.
“@DundeeFC ‘s recent performance includes a 4-3 loss to @RangersFC on March 29, 2025, where they conceded late goals despite leading at halftime.
“I believe @DundeeFC can do better and as a consequence I will be making a bid for the majority stake. GIOVANNI DI STEFANO 30/03/2025”.
Dundee announced a £2.8million loss for last year – with the club citing their Premiership promotion push as the reason for their staggering deficit.
The Dens Park side said they pushed the boat out to secure promotion with investors covering the shortfall of a Championship budget to ensure they had a Premiership-level squad.
A statement read: “The company has made a loss for the year of £2,862,820 (2022-£892,440).
“At the year-end, there was a deficit of £6,249,728 (2022-£3,392,308) of shareholders’ funds.
“The board of directors has received an undertaking in writing from Football Partners Scotland L.P. that it will continue to make additional funds available to the company in situations where these funds are required.”
