Chris Pratt has shaped up to be one of the most successful actors in Hollywood in recent times. Be it The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jurassic World, or even Guardians of the Galaxy, the actor has been able to bring in a lot of money when his face is plastered on the silver screen.
Pratt’s next adventure into the reel world, however, is not tied to a big franchise. The film that he is going to star in, however, could not be more relevant in today’s cultural and media landscape.

Chris Pratt is set to star in a film called Mercy, which is to be directed by Timur Bekmambetov. The film is also set to star Rebecca Ferguson and Annabelle Wallis. The film is set to focus on a trial, overseen by AI judges, whom Pratt’s character must convince that he is innocent of killing his wife.
Mercy was always destined for the big screen, according to Amazon MGM head Jennifer Salke

As reported by Deadline, the script for the film had convinced higher-ups at Amazon MGM studios that Mercy actually deserved a theatrical release. The film is part of a massive push from the company to greenlight a bunch of films, some of which will head to theatres, while others are put on the service directly. She said:
From the moment Chuck Roven brought us Mercy and we read Marco van Belle’s script, we knew the film was meant for the big screen. As our relationship with The Terminal List and The Tomorrow War’s Chris Pratt continues to extend across film, we can’t wait to watch him bring this action-packed story to life, guided by Chuck and the vision of director Timur Bekmambetov.
We could not imagine a better star and filmmaking team to execute on and deliver what is sure to be a gripping thrill ride and look forward to audiences being able to experience it in theaters.
Chris Pratt has lately been on a kick, fast becoming one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars, who brings in the money regardless of the project he is in. With his stint in recent franchise films, it is expected that a lot more high-profile projects from a variety of studios are going to see him participate in them.
Marvel Studios needs to get Chris Pratt back as an active member of the MCU

While the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has come to an end under James Gunn. Vol. 3 promised that Star-Lord will return to the MCU. Chris Pratt was missing from the lineup that was announced for Avengers: Doomsday, which might be concerning for the MCU, given that there seems to be less and less interest with each passing film.
While there was some record-breaking traction for the 5-hour-long teaser of Doomsday, it is concerning how the film does not have some of the MCU’s biggest moneymakers in its cast, such as Spider-Man and Star-Lord. It is completely possible that these characters are being saved for appearances in Secret Wars. Spider-Man already has his own film in between the two Avengers films, but Star-Lord seems to be largely absent from the scene, despite Chris Pratt’s ability to draw crowds to theatres. The actor might also be a great fit for the Avengers roster going forward.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on May 1, 2026.
