Dentures are usually worn by older folks who have lost a majority of their natural teeth due to age or poor oral hygiene, where it helps them chew on their food.
Unfortunately for a woman in Thailand, her dentures was what led to her demise after she swallowed it whole by accident and subsequently choked to death.
Thai woman chokes to death after swallowing dentures
According to a report by The Thaiger, the victim was identified at 67-year-old Moi, where eyewitnesses saw her losing consciousness while walking back to her stall after using the bathroom at a market in the northern province of Lampang on Mar 31.

At first, the vendors at the market thought Moi had collapsed due to a pre-existing condition she had, which was hypertension. They then hurried to revive her using inhalers but to no avail.
The vendors then sought the help of a rescue team, who performed CPR on Moi and rushed her to the hospital. An examination later revealed that a denture was lodged inside Moi’s throat and the rescue team tried removing it to allow Moi to breathe.
Tragically, it proved to be a little too late as the denture had blocked Moi’s windpipe, causing her to choke to death on it.

Following Moi’s passing, one Thai media outlet, Channel 7, issued a warning to all denture users and reminded them to check their dentures often and not use damaged dentures.
This isn’t the first time someone has ingested their dentures in Thailand, with the last incident taking place last September.
In the said incident, a retired teacher nearly died after his denture accidentally slipped into his throat. Thankfully, he survived as a doctor was able to remove it just in time.
