Donkey Kong was Nintendo’s first big hit in arcades once it was released in 1981. The big ape was mostly an antagonist to Mario until he got his big break on the SNES in 1994 with the arrival of Donkey Kong Country. Along with his cousin Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong finally got a platformer series all his own. His first 3D adventure was on the N64 in 1999 via Donkey Kong 64.
