Kathryn Hahn is one of the coolest actors in Hollywood, and an ever-cooler mom. Earlier this week, the Wandavision star arrived on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about everything from Agatha All Along to her children. Specifically, she talked about her and her son’s dynamic as he’s going off to college.
And during this chat, she revealed how she has a “toxic relationship” with her son, as she joked so many boy moms do.
“I’m trying to get all the tears out now so that I can just be like, so happy for him when he goes off — but right now, it’s, like, a mess,” Hahn said. “I think this was Tina Fey, but we used to laugh that having a teenage son is like being in a toxic relationship.”
“Because you’re literally like, ‘Hey, just texting again.’ Like, standing by the phone, ‘Is he gonna call me back?’ She added, “You got to play it cool. It’s like a cat. If they give you any kind of, like, any sort of attention you got to be like, ‘What? Huh?’ because, otherwise, bolting.”

For those who don’t know, Hahn and her husband, Ethan Sandler, met while attending Northwestern University and married in 2002. They welcomed two children named Leonard Henry, born in Oct 2006, and Mae Marie, born in July 2009.
In a previous interview with People, she revealed that since he’s a “teenager,” he won’t admit she’s cool.
“He’s a teenager,” she added. “No one can really admit to their mom that they’re cool, which I understand and respect, but they definitely were a little bit, I would just say, suspiciously nicer to me these days. So I feel like I’m going to take that as a huge compliment. They’re definitely proud for sure.”
