Celtic star’s sister captains Scotland to huge Women’s Euros qualifying victory

SHE has a long way to go if she wants to emulate her brother’s incredible career.

But one Celtic star’s sister is certainly going the right away about it early in her career.

Scotland‘s under-19 women took on the Czech Republic in a huge European Championships qualifier at Broadwood this afternoon.

They kicked-off round two of their qualifying campaign for the finals that will be held in Poland later this year.

The Scots are in Group A5 alongside Spain, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

Crucially, ONLY the team finishing top will qualify for the Women’s U19 Euros finals.

Each team will face off against each other once in a mini-tournament format with all matches taking place across the next week.

All the games are being held in Scotland in a major boost to coach Gary Doctor and his team.

Spain got things off and running with a comfortable 3-0 win over the Swiss at Broadwood at lunchtime.

After that was done and dusted, Scotland took to the field against the Czech Republic.

It proved an excellent outing for the young Scots who secured a thumping 4-0 victory to move top of the qualification group.

Fallon Connolly-Jackson and Laura Berry both scored twice, with the former’s second coming directly from a corner.

Captaining Scotland in the match was an 18-year old with a very familiar name.

Lisa Forrest wore the armband and led by example.

The 18-year old forward has been a regular for Scotland Women at under-17 and now under-19 level.

She was also heavily involved in a lovely move that saw the Scots net their third goal.

At club level, she plays for Glasgow City who are currently sitting top of the SWPL amid a ferocious title battle with Hibs, Rangers and Celtic.

It’s perhaps little surprise that she has a good footballing pedigree given who her brothers are.

If the name looks familiar, that’s because it is – she’s the sister of Celtic winger James and Hearts ace Alan.

Big brother James, 33, has won 25 major trophies for the Hoops.

That’s a joint-record with Bobby Lennox but a record he’s likely to have all to himself in the coming weeks with Celtic closing in on another Scottish Premiership title.

He’s also won 39 caps for Scotland and scored five times, while like his sister, also represented his country at under-19 level.

Lisa, still only 18, already has a league title under her belt having been part of the Glasgow City squad that won the SWPL in 2023 and as mentioned, she’ll be hoping to add another league winners’ medal this season.

She’s become a crucial part of the Glasgow City side and penned a long-term contract extension until 2029 in December.

While she has a long way to go to catch brother James’ incredible trophy haul, it’s a target for Lisa.

Speaking a couple of years ago, she revealed she wants to emulate the Hoops legend.

In a 2023 interview after Glasgow City had won the league, Lisa said: “We are all very proud of each other.

“He didn’t have any mixed feelings about the title being between Celtic and City, he was just happy for me.

“I have my medal in a wee box in my bedroom and I still smile at it every time I see it but James doesn’t have his medals or anything on display. I don’t even know where he keeps them.”

She added: “The biggest thing that James has taught me is that when it hasn’t worked out well or you’ve not had a great game, you have to move on.

“You can’t dwell on anything. You always have to be ready for the next challenge.”
