Actress Carrie Coon is known for portraying complex characters on-screen and on stage. She is currently portraying the character of Laurie in Mike White’s The White Lotus Season 3.
Coon has been garnering appreciation for her work on the show as a corporate lawyer out on a vacation in Thailand for a girl’s trip.

The actress made her feature debut with Gone Girl and has appeared in projects including The Post, Widows, Boston Strangler, and more. Carrie Coon also made her MCU debut as Proxima Midnight in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War but sadly did not return for Avengers: Endgame. There are finally answers to the most asked question about why she declined to reprise her character.
Carrie Coon’s husband reveals why she didn’t return for MCU’s Avengers: Endgame
Ardent MCU fans have wondered why Carrie Coon’s Proxima Midnight did not have lines in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and the actress finally reveals why. In a recent interview with The Ringer’s The Big Picture podcast, Carrie Coon’s husband, Tracy Letts, went on to share that the actress was willing to voice the character, but she eventually decided not to.
Letts explain (via People),
I believe Marvel went to her for the second one, and they asked her to be in the second one. And she said, ‘Well, the first one is the most successful movie ever made. Are you going to pay me any more money? And they said, ‘No. We’re not going to pay you any more money.
Her husband went on to reveal that after hearing that she wasn’t going to get paid more, Coon decided to turn down the offer. He also added that after she turned down the offer, the studios told her that she should feel fortunate to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tracy Letts further stated that they could have made a bigger deal out of the situation, but it would have involved them watching the movie, and they were not ready to do that. Letts said that they have not watched Infinity War or Endgame to date.
Proxima Midnight appeared in Endgame but did not have any lines in the movie. In 2018, the actress, in speaking to EW, shared how she landed the role in the MCU. She explained that it started as a voiceover audition when the studios were looking for the voice of Proxima Midnight.
Carrie Coon noted that they reached out to her maybe because they were interested in her voice or maybe because she has actually done motion-capture work.
Carrie Coon talks about playing Laurie in The White Lotus
In her interview with Vanity Fair, the actress spoke about how she built her character Laurie for the show, The White Lotus, in which she is on a girls’ trip. Coon mentioned that Mike White dreamed up the trip after he witnessed three blond women on a vacation together.

She shared with the publication that the creator of the show knows all of his characters inside and out, and it’s very fascinating to witness. Upon asking if there was anything in Laurie that she, as Carrie Coon, found difficult or challenging to wrap her head around, to which she said,
The life she’s chosen for herself is far from me. I did actually speak to one of the moms from [her kids’] school who is a corporate lawyer. I went to her house, and we sat down and talked about her day, what it looked like, what are the challenges of that career, and what are the challenges specifically for a mother who’s trying to ascend in that world. What are her pet peeves about writing about lawyers that they get wrong?
Coon shared that the mom she spoke to and her lawyer friends are feeling very seen now, and she has to give them the credit. In episode 7, the trio actually opens up about their criticism, and the actress is asked about filming that particular moment. She described it as ‘fun to shoot.’
Carrie Coon noted that they had been living that dynamic for so long, and it’s always fun to get that kind of release, where one gets to go at each other in that way. Talking about Laurie, Coon mentioned that she is insulting under the guise of being a truth-teller, while at the same time lacking self-reflection. She does not take any responsibility for her part, which is infuriating.
The actress also mentions that she is a fan of the show, and she wanted to be able to experience the unfolding of the show in real life with everyone else. Coon recalled that it’s so wild to think back and remember that the scenes of the ocean shown on the show are real places out there.
The White Lotus Season 3 is streaming on HBO Max.
