
Two persons have lost their lives while 13 are still missing following a head-on collision of two boats at Akede community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. A source told Daily Trust that the incident which occurred on Tuesday evening, April 1, 2025 involved a speed boat carrying passengers from Eropa community in Southern Ijaw and a fishing boat. The source said some divers are already in the water to rescue any of the missing passengers could be rescued. He said a speed boat named Meeting Marine, powered by a 115HP engine and operated by a man identified as Saturday, was traveling from Anyama Ijaw towards Lubia and Foropa communities when it collided with a fishing boat at the Akede Community waterfront. Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in Bayelsa State, Comrade Ogoniba Ipigansi, said 13 passengers were yet to be found.
