A group of firefighters who worked through the night to control the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights on April 1 have earned heartfelt praise from Malaysians after a video showed their exhaustion and worn-out equipment.
According to a video uploaded on Facebook by a firefighter under the name Pang Lima Sungai, the team had just completed their mission when one of them was seen sitting on the roadside, visibly drained.
Exhausted after operation
The video also showed the boots of two other firefighters, completely covered in mud — with one of the soles coming apart from overuse and intense pressure during the operation.
One of the firefighters even took a moment to show the camera the damaged sole of his boot, a clear sign of the rough conditions they had to face during the mission.

In another photo, one firefighter can be seen slumped on the pavement, wearing an oxygen mask and connected to a blood pressure monitor and pulse oximeter.
His red fire-resistant trousers are still on, along with heavy-duty boots. His helmet and jacket lie beside him, showing just how intense the rescue efforts were.

Netizens’ reaction
The incident has sparked an outpouring of respect and gratitude from netizens, many of whom flooded the comments section with messages of appreciation.
“You’re the best, Panglima. Netizens are really looking forward to each of your updates. The way you show the work and challenges faced at the scene. Thank you, elite squad. 🫡”

“Bro.. if those work boots are your favourites and you still want to use them, give them to me — I’ll repair them for free.”

“These are the ones who deserve full pensions… not those YBs (elected reps) who serve just one term and get a lifetime pension…”

Some also called for official recognition and better compensation for the firefighters involved, emphasising the physical toll and emotional sacrifice made by these unsung heroes.
