Dexter: Original Sin has opened up countless possibilities and questions about its characters. With Season 2 now officially confirmed, something many of us anticipated, I’m more excited than ever to see how the story unfolds, especially regarding Dexter and his estranged brother, Brian Moser.
The season finale hints at Brian still lurking around Dexter, leaving us to wonder whether he will return in Season 2. I’m convinced he will; otherwise, why alter what was originally planned for his character?

While the possibility is intriguing and opens up even more questions, one mystery stands out, how did Brian manage to stay hidden in plain sight for so long, despite being so close to Dexter, before ultimately emerging as the Ice Truck Killer?
Dexter: Original Sin needs to answer the biggest question about the Ice Truck Killer
Dexter: Original Sin offered glimpses into Brian Moser’s tragic life following the horrific Shipping Yard massacre, where he lost both his mother and younger brother, who was later adopted by Harry Morgan.

Having no recollection of his family before the incident, Dexter moves on in the pretense of a normal life and continues his killing spree under the code of Harry. However, Brian was institutionalized at Harbor Light Mental Hospital for over a decade.
We learn about Dexter’s journey in the original series and his ways to cover up his crimes, which he did with Harry’s training, code, and his own personal experience in Miami Metro. However, Brian’s journey remains largely a mystery.
The original series initially reveals Brian as Rudy Cooper, an alias of one of his victims whom he killed in 1998. He doesn’t just stay hidden, as he swiftly makes his way into Dexter’s life as Deb’s charming boyfriend, fooling everyone, even Dexter himself.

But that’s what makes his story so fascinating. How did Brian learn to blend in so well while committing such brutal crimes? That’s the biggest mystery I hope Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 finally answers.
Brian is better than Dexter at blending into the crowd
One of the most fascinating things about Brian is that, in some ways, he’s even better at hiding in plain sight than Dexter. Dexter often comes off as socially awkward, struggling to connect with people beyond surface-level interactions.

Brian, on the other hand, is naturally charismatic, slipping into different roles with ease. Even in Original Sin, we see how he effortlessly blends into the Bingo Hall before killing Barb Kersten.
Unlike Dexter, who relies on a strict set of rules to avoid suspicion, Brian operates with a more fluid, adaptive approach. His ability to evade detection, even as the Ice Truck Killer, suggests a level of cunning and psychological manipulation that surpasses Dexter’s more structured method of concealment.
What I hope Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 answers?
Dexter: Original Sin has given us glimpses into his early days, including his time at Harbor Light and his first known kill, Paul Petrie. But there’s a massive gap in his story. How did he evolve into a master manipulator?
One Reddit user put it perfectly: “I figure at this point he’s pretty feral and very far from the successful charming Bundy type we meet later.” And I agree, so when did that shift happen? Did he study Dexter from afar, picking up tricks along the way or did he refine his methods over time?

With the Original Sin Season 1 finale hinting at Brian’s possible return in the next season, I can’t wait to see more of his journey, including if Brian ever attempts to reconnect with his brother between Original Sin and Dexter again.
If he had been watching his brother for so long, why did he wait until Dexter Season 1 to make his move as the Ice Truck Killer? With Original Sin officially renewed, Season 2 has the perfect opportunity to fill in these gaps and reveal the missing pieces of Brian’s story.
Dexter and Dexter: Original Sin are available to watch on Showtime.
