For years, Reuben Langdon has embodied the cocky, and rebellious character of Dante in Devil May Cry. Needless to say, every time I thought of Dante, it was Reuben’s voice that popped up in my head. But the voice actor has recently been replaced by Johnny Yong Bosch in DMC.
There has been plenty of debates over whether Bosch would be able to live up to the role and let me tell you, the man is already owning it. Bosch already has a perfect grip on Dante’s fun-loving character, and a recent clip from the anime is proof of it.
There have been several controversies regarding the change in Dante’s voice actor, but you can now put everything behind you and enjoy the series without a worry in the world.

Devil May Cry (2025), an animated series set to premiere on April 3, 2025, is the latest installment of the franchise. After tons of games, movies, manga, and novel adaptations, the series is back with another animated series. The last animated series of the franchise debuted in 2007 with 12 episodes, and fans came to love it.
Finally, after 18 years, the franchise is returning with another animated series, but with a new actor taking Reuben’s place as Dante’s voice actor. I remember back when the controversies surrounding Reuben were coming to light. Fans were shocked since they had no idea who could possibly replace Reuben.
When the upcoming anime was announced, I was still perplexed about Johnny Yong Bosch. After all, he had already played Nero in DMC 3 and 4. But a latest clip from the animated series has proved me wrong.
The scene in question is a bit less than 2 minutes in length, but it shows off Dante’s character quite beautifully. The difference in voices can be ignored quite easily, given that this is a younger Dante. The cocky and flirty nature of the character has also been beautifully portrayed by Bosch.

I know it’s not that easy to accept a new voice actor for a character that you have been familiar with for more than two decades. And believe me, I’m the same. A single unsuitable change in voice actors is a make-or-break moment for animations. But somehow, DMC has managed to woo me with Dante’s new voice.
Dante is remarkable for his flippant nature; he also casually mouth off to powerful demons, making fans, including me, adore him. The trailer shows just how fearless he is in the face of danger, and the little dialogues in between the action sequences show off his nonchalance.
Bosch has perfectly captured Dante’s fearlessness in front of his adversaries. The short clip is enough to show how the character has not suffered any setbacks due to a change in voice actors. In fact, the debates surrounding the issue now seem to have been in vain, as Bosch is well on his path to perfecting Dante.
Devil May Cry (2025) will premiere on Netflix on April 3, 3035.
