Solo Leveling has become the epitome of not just meta-isekai, but also of action series. Season 2 of Solo Leveling brought higher-quality animation and more intense fights, leading the series to take the #2 spot on a major streaming platform such as Crunchyroll.
Yet, many fans agree that although there are impressive fights like Sung Jinwoo v Kargalgan and the fight with the Ant King Beru, Season 2 still couldn’t surpass Season 1’s finale.

The battle of the newly starting out Jinwoo against Igris, the Blood-Red Commander, remains one of the most beautifully animated and choreographed moments in the series.
The Igris fight remains Solo Leveling’s peak
There are many reasons why- it could be that it was the first battle that felt like it peaked after a lot of battles that were made quick work of. It is of utmost significance as well, lending it a certain sense of emotional gravity.
Sung Jinwoo, who was once the ‘weakest Hunter’ had to prove to himself that he is not the same, and it would start his journey to becoming the Shadow Monarch.

Igris was a lieutenant of Ashborn’s mighty forces; gaining such a powerful ally was essential for Jinwoo to progress further in becoming stronger. The camera work, the incredible fluidity of movements, and the sheer impact of Jinwoo’s hand-to-hand duel with Igris made it unforgettable.

Not to mention how the battle seemed like it could sway in any direction (later on, all battles seem like a foregone outcome). While fights like Ant King Beru and Kargalgan Tusk were visually impressive, none matched the raw weight of Igris’s battle and the legendary “Arise” scene that followed.
This was the highest point of the Season, maybe even the set of the aura farming trend as well. It is not enough to just slice and keep slicing with a sword and then win; a true battle is one of strategy and focus, maybe even luck.
Season 2’s fights didn’t have the same impact
This real and raw aspect of battle could be seen in Igris vs. Jinwoo, which is why it remains the best battle in the two seasons combined.

Igris wasn’t just another boss battle; it was ‘the boss battle.’ There was a lot hinging upon Jinwoo’s victory, and it would dictate his fate, whether he could achieve all of his dreams or fall.
The length of the fight speaks as to its importance in a series that is as fast-paced as Solo Leveling. Igris’ striking design to his fighting style that blended raw strength with discipline made it all the more mesmerizing.
Season 2 undeniably boasts higher production quality, but some fights have lacked the careful choreography that made Season 1’s finale shine. Not to mention, the opponents did not exert the pressure or influence that Igris did, looking like a majestic knight and having the plume of a legion commander.
He represented a level of power Jinwoo was yet to reach, which is what made it so interesting. Battles like Tusk vs. the Ant King and Beru’s emergence were powerful, yet they felt more like high-speed battles rather than a dangerous and careful dance. This could be the reason why they were not able to dethrone the Igris-Jinwoo fight.
