Henry Cavill reportedly lost out on another shot at starring in James Bond. Fans have been waiting to find out just who will represent 007 in the upcoming movies after Daniel Craig’s character breathed his last in the 2021 movie No Time To Die.
Cavill’s fans were especially looking forward to it in anticipation that this might be his chance to make a big franchise comeback after being replaced in The Witcher and Superman.

However, recent reports suggest that ship might have sailed as Amazon is seemingly looking for a young 20-something actor to be the new face of the spy cum assassin in future movies.
Henry Cavill reportedly loses another chance to play James Bond
Things are not looking good for Henry Cavill as his second shot at starring in James Bond is reportedly going down the drain. Fans are aware that Henry Cavill auditioned for the master assassin’s character before Daniel Craig swooped in for the role (Collider).
Not only was his audition a failure, but his appearance was also criticized as unfit for the role. Although the world has spun on its axis quite a few times after that, it seems like playing James Bond is not really Cavill’s fate.

A recent report by The Sun suggested that Amazon is looking for a 20-something actor to replace Craig as the beloved character in the upcoming movies.
The reason behind that is the franchise is trying to tell the story of how Bond became who he was, thanks to the experiences he garnered during his younger years in the service.
This would also help keep the storyline straight after the titular character died in the 2021 movie No Time To Die, without making an elaborate story about how that was a farce. As per an insider,
They can’t just pretend it didn’t happen. So they’re looking at his story as a younger man in a different era.
Line of Duty‘s famed Daniel Mays expounded on the point during his appearance on the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast, saying,
I heard a rumour they’re going to cast someone very young and go back to the origins. They’re going to have all the retro cars and that sort of stuff — and start again. I think that would be kind of cool.
The Sun also reported that the actors who are currently in the race to become the next face of James Bond are Spider-Man star Tom Holland, Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal, Bridget Jones’ famed Leo Woodall, Heartstopper star Kit Connor, SAS Rogue Heroes’ famed Connor Swindells, and Fiennes Tiffin.
If the reports turn out to be true, it will be Henry Cavill’s third massive career defeat after losing The Witcher and Superman in the last few years. As there hasn’t been any official confirmation on the subject yet, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out in the future.
Fans weigh in on Amazon’s decision to forsake Henry Cavill for Tom Holland or another young actor
Henry Cavill’s fans haven’t taken the actor getting replaced by David Corenswet as the new Superman well. Nor did they like what happened with The Witcher much. As such, the reports of James Bond slipping from his fingers once again are unlikely to garner positive reactions.

Interestingly, though, most fans seem hung up on who among the actors still reportedly in the race absolutely cannot play the titular character. For example, during a discussion on the matter on X, one fan noted, “Tom Holland will be the worst PICK. EVER”.
Another fan seemed to be harboring similar feelings toward Paul Mescal, as they noted, “Please not Paul Mescal”. Although there were a few fans who seemed excited by the prospect, most people seemed displeased by the idea.
According to @TheSun and actor Daniel Mays, Amazon is looking for a very young actor to play the next James Bond, in a story set in the 1950s or 60s.

For God’s sake. This better be an April Fool Day Joke.
Tom Holland will be the worst PICK. EVER.
Tom Holland doesn’t have the look, the skill, the voice, nor the qualifications to play James Bond. It would be an insult to the James Bond character.— Moveable35 🇺🇲🇺🇸 (@moveable35) April 1, 2025
Neither of them, they should at least pick a fresh new face for making this “reboot” ( because that’s what it is) decent.

How are you supposed to be a master assassin If you’re in your 20s also one thing I never understood about the James Bond films is why doesn’t James Bond build up his drug tolerance so that he doesn’t get knocked out by every single person that uses a drug on him?

Please not Paul Mescal.

It is imperative to state once again that no official confirmations on the matter have yet been made. Moreover, the franchise is unlikely to do the same until the very last leg of the upcoming movie’s casting process.
As such, Henry Cavill’s fans will have to wait to find out just how much truth this recent report holds in the long run.
No Time To Die is available to rent on Apple TV.
