Celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero’s sister, Gris Guerrero, is shedding more light on her brother’s medical issues leading up to his untimely death as the family awaits his official autopsy results.
“He was diagnosed with gastritis months back, but it was never anything to get that bad,” Gris exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, March 31, confessing, “So we don’t know if that was a part of it.”
Gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining, which according to John Hopkins Medicine can be caused by too much alcohol, smoking or extreme stress. Symptoms include stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and abdominal bleeding.
She noted that “from the paperwork” she’s seen it “seems to be the case” that Jesus lost 20 pounds prior to his death in February. (Jesus’ death was confirmed on February 22 when Gris created a GoFundMe page in his honor.)

Gris explained to Us that her family was aware “that he couldn’t eat without it being painful” in the days leading up to his death. “We think it could have been something with his stomach,” she added.
Gris previously confirmed that Jesus was in the hospital when he died, telling Us on Monday, “We have so many questions and a lot doesn’t make sense.”
She also revealed that to her knowledge, Jesus wasn’t diagnosed with pneumonia prior to his death, but that he did keep the severity of his ailments mostly to himself.
“He didn’t tell a lot of people,” Gris said, noting that Jesus’ best friend Kylie Jenner didn’t even know he wasn’t feeling well. “People who saw him said, ‘You need to get rest and help,’ and he seemed to believe he could push through it and get better and unfortunately that wasn’t the case.”
Gris confessed to Us that “everything is a big question” at this point. She also confirmed that although an autopsy has been conducted, the family is waiting on the results — a wait that could take weeks.
While Jesus’ loved ones are waiting for answers as to why he died suddenly at the age of 34, they have been mourning their loss.
The hairstylist was honored at a funeral service in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, March 30, where his family and celebrity clientele were both in attendance.
“Kylie and J.Lo lovingly showed up to pay their respects,” Gris previously told Us. “Kylie was with us when we laid him to rest for the burial.”

She confirmed that Jenner, 27, and Jennifer Lopez were present for the funeral, while Katy Perry “generously helped with making sure we could have security to keep our grieving private.”
While the “Roar” singer, 40, couldn’t attend in person, Gris told Us Perry “sent her loving support.”
Jenner, who was a longtime friend and client of Jesus, covered “most of the funeral home expenses to put him to rest,” Gris added.
After news broke in February that Jesus died, his sister exclusively told Us that the timeline leading up to his death “isn’t an issue.” However, after tracking “every one of his steps,” the family said they “don’t know what got him sick.”
“It all happened suddenly, and no one knows why,” Gris said in February, noting that Jesus’ recent trip to Dubai for work seems to be the catalyst for his unknown illness.
She explained, “As soon as he showed up [in Dubai], he was told, ‘You don’t look well,’ to sit down and rest. If he didn’t get well, to go back to the hospital. [They told him], ‘We want you to take care of yourself.’”

While Jesus did see a doctor in Dubai, Gris said he was “focused” on making it back to the United States, where his roommate “forced him to go to the doctors” again. He died while in the hospital that same month.
Despite the shroud of mystery surrounding his cause of death, Jesus’ impact on his friends and family is evident based on the outpouring of tributes he received.
“He was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support. I don’t know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side. He had a way of making even the heaviest days feel lighter,” Jenner wrote via Instagram on February 25.
The Kardashians star added: “Thank you, Jesus, for always being there for me, for lifting me up, for being my friend. The pain of losing you is just unbearable and i don’t know how to move forward without you but I know great grief is born only of great love. and I loved you so much. You were the best person, with a talent that was unmatched. a true artist. You inspired so many, and you always will.”
