The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us many memorable superheroes and epics, ranging from Thor’s electrifying entry to the OG Captain America’s glorious tale. Among these more established, ‘veteran,’ superheroes, Spider-Man came swinging into the narrative way back in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Tom Holland was 19 years old when he debuted as the friendly ‘not-so’ neighborhood Spider-Man, and now, a decade later, he is set to return in the role for the seventh time in the fourth installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise. Been in the works for a long time and having faced several hurdles along the way, the title of the fourth film was recently revealed to be Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While Holland exuberated youthful charm and energy with a strong sense of responsibility in his early run as the web-slinger, his iteration of Peter Parker has come a long way from where he started. Having lost everyone he loved in his last entry, the stakes for the fourth part are greater than ever. The stakes have also been significantly raised, given the film will be released after Avengers: Doomsday, potentially playing a bridge between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
While the title alone makes the film one of the most anticipated entries in the MCU, the eagerness to see what Peter Parker has gone through since we last saw him makes the anticipation tenfold more. So, without any more delay, lets dive into the upcoming film and recall what we already know about the film and speculate a bit about how our favorite web-slinger’s next adventure will be!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day: The title carries weight

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is based on Marvel Comics, and till now, several comic book events have been adapted in different ways for the superhero franchise. Well, Spider-Man 4 is no different, apparently seeking inspiration from one of the most controversial yet transformative storylines from Marvel Comics.
As the title suggests, the fourth installment of the billion-dollar franchise reportedly takes direct inspiration from 2008’s comic book storyline featured in The Amazing Spider-Man, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, written by Dan Slott, March Guggenheim, Bob Gale, and Zeb Wells.
This comic book reportedly features the events following One More Day, which is similar to what took place in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Spider-Man’s identity has been forgotten by everyone; however, in the comic book iteration, Harry Osborn is alive, and so is Aunt May.
Well, Brand New Day offers a fresh start for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, similar to its comic book counterpart of the same name. But how it is adapted and what parts are to be omitted, well, we will have to wait to see.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Storyline and plot

We already know that the upcoming film will provide a fresh start for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, who has been left alone, quite literally, following the events of No Way Home. However, even with the title of the film, it remains to be seen what Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be about.
In the comics, Brand New Day followed the events of One More Day, where Peter Parker had made a deal with Mephisto to save Aunt May. This not only erases Spider-Man’s identity but also erases Parker and MJ’s marriage. Furthermore, with Spider-Man’s history altered, Harry Osborn is back from the dead, hinting that Holland’s fourth Spidey film might feature Harry Osborn as the main adversary, signaling his MCU debut.
Moreover, Sadie Sink was recently announced as one of the cast members of the film. With reports suggesting she might be cast as an X-Men, there is a possibility that Spider-Man: Brand New Day might have some mutant adventure too. Furthermore, given that the film is sandwiched between the two upcoming epics, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, multiversal elements in the film cannot be entirely ruled out.
Following the revelation of the title at CinemaCon by director Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom Holland joined in at the event via a video. While Holland felt sorry he couldn’t be there personally, he remained that Brand New Day is a fresh start, without giving fans any spoilers, a habit he is famous for (via Variety).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Cast and more

Spider-Man 4 has been in the works for a long time, but as for the cast details, very little has been revealed. While Tom Holland will surely swing back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, it remains to be seen whether his MJ (Michelle Jones) aka Zendaya, and bestie, Ned Leeds aka Jacob Batalon, will return as well.
Apart from Holland, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink was reported to have joined the cast. Sink’s role is still under wraps, but as is being reported and speculated, the actress might end up playing the X-Men, aka mutant Jean Grey, which has been formerly portrayed by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in Fox’s X-Men movies.
As for the directing work, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ famed director, Destin Daniel Cretton, has been roped in to direct the flick. While making his first-ever appearance at the CinemaCon, the filmmaker remarked (via Variety):
I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.
While it remains to be seen which of the other MCU regulars might make an appearance in the film, we may get Jon Favreau back as Happy Hogan. As for Marisa Tomei‘s Aunt May, it is unlikely given her tragic death in No Way Home. Furthermore, rumors are swirling around that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire might return as Spider-Men too, along with J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson, RDJ‘s Doctor Doom, and Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Release date

Fans have been waiting for Spider-Man 4 since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The last entry left the beloved web-slinger all alone, with everyone who ever knew him having forgotten about him. Given the massive cliffhanger we were left on, it is good to know that the film is finally in the works and gearing up for release next year.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s release date is sandwiched between that of Doomsday and Secret Wars and will finally hit theatres on July 31, 2026. Reuniting the audience with Peter Parker after five years of a very dreadfully long wait, the film’s release date has been pushed back a week. Since Tom Holland and Zendaya’s collaboration with Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey, will be arriving in theatres on July 17, 2026, the extra week will allow the Marvel flick more room and some extra distance (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Well, whether it releases a week prior or a week before, there is a chance that Brand New Day might redefine Spider-Man’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More than just an average sequel, we can hardly wait for the film to release and to see what Marvel has been cooking so far. With ample time to shoot and pre-production, we only hope that this entry is not riddled with extensive cuts, reshoots, and other issues that have been playing MCU flicks lately.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be in theatres on July 31, 2026.
