“They do NOT honor their warranty”: Gigabyte and Multiple Other Manufacturers Selling the RTX 5090 Caught in a Warranty Scandal Whirlpool in USA

Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series of GPUs have been quite controversial as of late, with multiple issues – ranging from molten power connectors to entirely missing components in the die (such as ROPs), which results in lower performance.

This is on top of the ever dwindling supplies of the RTX 5090 (and similar) cards, which appear to be out of stock almost everywhere.

Now, to make matters worse, multiple GPU manufacturers have been reported to be not honoring their warranties – which makes for a pitiful show.

As seen in a trending Reddit post on the r/nvidia subreddit, a user has managed to find themselves in a bit of a pickle with regards to international warranties. In short, the user managed to snag an RTX 5090 Aorus Master from the Philippines, which just so happens to be the flagship GPU of Gigabyte.

For the uninitiated, Gigabyte offers a 4-year warranty for their GPUs, irrespective of the locale. Despite the user managing to secure a warranty registration – which still remains active – they have been denied the claim, after they moved back to the USA.

The GPU has been noted to develop multiple defects during the time period, with symptoms such as a full BSOD (blue screen of death on Windows) while stressing the GPU in intensive tasks such as video games.

Gigabyte DOES NOT HONOR their warranty and I now have a 3000 dollar paper weight because of this.

As such, the user is understandably frustrated with the whole ordeal – calling out Gigabyte support, claiming that they do not honor their warranties at all, as they are now left with a rather expensive paper weight right now.

However, it should be noted that a lot of this could be attributed to user error as well. After all, Gigabyte is not the only manufacturer that refuses international warranty claims of any kind – even ASUS and MSI are guilty of this too.

As such, the poster might have to head on over to the service center for Gigabyte in the Philippines in order to be able to claim a repair slot. This is, after all, standard manufacturer practice, where global warranties are the exception rather than the norm.

OP seriously messed up here – and there is likely nothing they can do to alleviate the issue. It could, however, be helpful if the poster managed to contact a PR lead at Gigabyte, and address the issue as soon as possible.

While regional warranties are completely valid, it does beg the question of why the card went bad in the first place

There is no doubt here that the matter of regional warranties is rather unfortunate, as it prevents would-be buyers from claiming warranties from overseas products. However, the even bigger question to ask here would be about the quality checks done with the GPU in the first place.

One would expect manufacturers to put in some level of competency regarding these cards, and the fact that it has happened to a flagship-grade card is doubly unfortunate.

The fact that this is yet another RTX 5090 with some form of defect makes matters even worse and does not paint the brand in a positive light, which makes last-gen offerings far more attractive.
