While Adolescence has already established itself as one of the best Netflix works of all time, it has also defeated the highly popular Netflix original Stranger Things in the weekly streaming charts.
Adolescence triumphs over Stranger Things in weekly numbers
Stranger Things is a leading contributor to Netflix’s success. The fourth season of the supernatural thriller is currently sitting in the second place of the Top 10 Most Popular Shows of all time. The fifth and final season of the Netflix Original is also set to drop sometime this year.
While it is expected that Season 5 of the show may also achieve some new milestones, the latest limited release, Adolescence, has already surpassed Stranger Things in the weekly growth race. In a new report by Puck, Adolescence is shown to be ahead of Stranger Things in global weekly views.
According to Puck’s report, Adolescence‘s weekly views have crossed over 40 million. On the other hand, Stranger Things Season 4 crossed past 30 million in its second week. Earlier, Netflix reported that the British crime-drama series amassed 66.3 million views and became the most-watched limited series as well as the most-watched British series through its first two weeks.
Currently, Fool Me Once is the second-most watched limited series with 98.2 million views, and Queen’s Gambit is the most-watched limited series with 112.8 million views. While Fool Me Once is most likely to be dethroned soon, Adolescence may also beat Queen’s Gambit if the upward trend continues. On top of it, the buzz on social media about the show will also act as a major elevation.
Adolescence, created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, centers on the 13-year-old Jamie Miller, who is arrested for the murder of a girl in his school. As if the story is not hauntingly brilliant, the 4 episodes of the series were shot in one continuous take, making it a cinematography masterclass. The series has also been critically acclaimed, with a 99% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Stranger Things Season 5 gets a hopeful update from the makers
With its unique setting and interesting plot, Stranger Things became an instant fan favorite on the streaming platform after its release in 2016. Millie Bobby Brown and the other cast members have become household names following the series’ success. But the show recently became the subject of concern for fans as the character’s age does not go very well with the actors’.
The age issue has been one of the major problems in the fourth season of the show. Despite its wild success, the fans found it a bit odd to relate the grown-up actors to their characters. With Season 5 just picking up after the events of Season 4, but releasing after a gap of 3 years, the issue still lingers on the show.
However, in a recent appearance at the SCAD TVfest (via The Sun), the creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed that the show is coming out this year.
