A MAN in his 60s has been rushed to hospital after being the victim of a serious assault at a flat in Dublin this afternoon.
The shock attack took place at noon at a residential property on Basin Street, Dublin 8, today.
Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene after receiving a report that an unresponsive man was found within a flat at the Old Convent on Basin Street.
The attack victim was removed from the scene by ambulance and is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital.
His condition is understood to be serious.
A man in his 20s was later arrested in connection with this incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Dublin Region.
The scene has been forensically examined and remains preserved.
Investigators are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai in Kilmainham are investigating a serious assault on a man in his 60s, which occurred at a residential property on Basin Street, Dublin 8, on Tuesday, 1 April, 2025.
“At approximately 12:00 noon, Gardai and emergency services responded to a report of an unresponsive man found within a flat at the Old Convent on Basin Street.
“He was removed from the scene by ambulance and is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital. His condition is understood to be serious.
“A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Dublin Region.
“The scene has been forensically examined and remains preserved.
