The Beatles Biopic Cast, Release Date, Storyline and All You Need to Know

The Beatles, one of the most iconic bands of all time, is set to receive a cinematic tribute. Director Sam Mendes has announced that this groundbreaking project will be quite different from a conventional biopic.

Instead of a single film, four separate biopics—each focusing on a different member of the Fab Four—will come together as a four-film cinematic event. Mendes believes this will be the “first bingeable theatrical experience.”

The four Beatles biopics, each focusing on each member of the band, will tell stories from their perspective. Sony is producing the four projects and they have confirmed the long-rumored cast of the project at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on Monday.

Release date and structure of the quartet of films

In one of the most unusual concepts for the cinematic universe, Sony is producing four movies about The Beatles, all sharing the same cast. On top of it, all four movies will be released in April 2028.

Sony revealed the casting details and the structure of the movies at CinemaCon 2025, held in Los Angeles. Director Sam Mendes, who previously directed Skyfall and 1917, will also direct all four movies of this project. About the project, Mendes has said to People,

I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies. The Beatles changed my understanding of music. I’ve been trying to make a movie about them for years.

The Beatles have a long and winding history with films. During their prime time, they appeared in movies, including A Hard Day’s Night and Help! Their music and rise to stardom have inspired many. However, releasing four interconnected films in the same month will certainly be a first in the history of cinema.

Along with the release date, the casting details of the biopics were also announced at CinemaCon. Director Mendes has carefully chosen four eminent actors to play the role of the four legendary figures of the band. Paul Mescal, famous for his roles in Normal People and Aftersun, will portray Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson, known for his roles in The King’s Man and Beach Rats, will portray John Lennon.

Actor Joseph Quinn, popular for his role as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, will portray George Harrison. Lastly, Barry Keoghan, famous for his roles in Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, will play the role of Ringo Starr.

These actors have expressed enthusiasm for their roles. Though they initially dodged the question about The Beatles project, Dickinson mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter in January that the casting “would be splendid” and “a brilliant opportunity.”

What would be the storyline of The Beatles biopic?

Each film will narrate The Beatles‘ story from the perspective of each band member. The movie will take a closer look at their experiences, challenges, and contributions to the music industry. The narrative structure of the biopics aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the band’s dynamic along with acknowledging each member’s journey that shaped their success collectively.

About the storyline, director Sam Mendes commented that the four members are very different human beings, and “together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history” (via Entertainment Weekly).

The filming is set to begin in 202, with all four movies premiering in 2028. This ambitious and bold release strategy is unique, but the producers are hopeful about its impact. Notably, this marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles‘ estate have granted permission for a scripted film project (via Gold Radio).

The announcement of the release date and cast has ignited excitement among the fans of The Beatles. The structure of the project, consisting of four biopics, is not only unique but also a bold step to present the life story of the four iconic figures of all time.
