Call of Duty is known for its intense gameplay and various multiplayer modes, offering gamers an exciting experience. However, if you’re a regular player, you’ll know the game is infamous for something else: Cheaters. This issue has plagued the game for years.
It’s almost a certainty that in any Warzone lobby, players will encounter a few players exploiting the hacks, ruining the fun for everyone else. While the developers have yet to solve this problem, they have finally made a positive move after years of pleas from the console players.

With the launch of Season 3, console players can finally take control of their crossplay matchmaking.
Why crossplay was a double-edged sword for Call of Duty
The simple answer lies in the fact that Warzone has had a long-standing problem with cheaters, and the majority of those cheaters have been found on PC. On paper, crossplay is a great feature that allows players to connect across platforms.
But, for the Call of Duty series, it has been a liability for console players, who often found themselves matched against PC cheaters wielding the powers of a god in a human game. Now, with the new update (patch notes), console players can finally disable crossplay matchmaking.
Starting April 3rd, console players can select from three new crossplay options:
- Full Crossplay (matching with all platforms)
- Console-Only (matching exclusively with PlayStation and Xbox players)
- Platform-Specific (matching with only players on the same console family)
These settings can be applied for different game modes as well, including Multiplayer Ranked, Warzone Ranked, and Unranked modes, allowing players to opt out of being matched with PC users entirely.
This update doesn’t just give console players a fighting chance, it levels the playing field. For years, those on PlayStation and Xbox have been at a disadvantage (though not entirely, as console players benefit from aim assist) when matched with PC players using cheats.
A step toward fixing the cheating problem

Of course, this doesn’t completely fix the problem of cheating across the game as a whole, but it’s a step toward making the game a more enjoyable experience, especially on consoles. While it may not be a perfect solution, it’s definitely a welcome one.
Now, with the option to turn off crossplay matchmaking, console players can avoid these unfair situations and enjoy the game as it was intended: challenging and fun, without the frustration of facing cheaters.
While this update is a much-needed win for console players, the hope is that the developers will continue their efforts to tackle the cheating issue across all platforms. In the future, it would be great for Warzone to provide a fair experience for everyone, no matter the platform they’re playing on.
Until then, the new crossplay settings are a much-needed win for console players, who have long been waiting for a way to escape the grip of PC cheaters.
