Gerry starred in The Golden Bachelor season 1 in 2023, and got engaged to Theresa Nist. They got married on January 4, 2024, during the Golden Wedding. However, just three months later, Gerry and Theresa announced that they were getting a divorce because they couldn’t decide where to live because neither one of them wanted to leave their family. In late 2024, Gerry revealed that he has an incurable, slow-growing form of bone marrow cancer called Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, which he said caused him to shift his priorities.
