Heather Rae & Tarek El Moussa Talk Family Planning in Couples Therapy — & Are Not on the Same Page

Heather Rae El Moussa is getting candid about her family planning journey with husband Tarek El Moussa. The HGTV stars have a beautiful blended family. They are the proud mom and dad to 2-year-old son Tristan and the proud stepmom and dad to kids Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9, who El Moussa shares with ex-wife, Christina Haack. The six make up one of Hollywood’s most admirable blended families, and, if Heather Rae had her way, it would keep growing.

“[Tristan] is, like, the light of my life. It makes me so happy,” she said on a recent episode of Scrubbing In with Becca Tinney & Tanya Rad, per Us Weekly. “I’m like, ‘How could I not want more?’ But my husband is very much done.”

And, at the risk of being named Captain Obvious, that’s a really tough spot to be in. Heather Rae said it’s “hard” to disagree with her husband about what they want their future to look like.

Which is why the stars of The Flipping El Moussas go to couples therapy and are “talking through things.” “I wish we would have started it sooner because I think it’s such an amazing thing and it helps communication,” she admitted.

Taboo as it might seem, we have to give a round of applause to the parents who are going to therapy — at least twice a month — and talking through their family planning journey. Those conversations are hard enough to have in private when you aren’t on the same page — never mind with a third party in the room. But they are putting in the work so they can do what’s best for themselves and their family.

El Moussa was not on the podcast to explain his reasoning for being “very much done,” but Heather Rae is very cognizant of her ever-ticking biological clock.

“I’m turning 38 this year. So, for me, it’s kind of like now or never in a way, not because you can’t have babies older, but I don’t want to be 40 having babies still ‘cause it’s a lot,” the Selling Sunset alum said. “It takes up a lot of your time, a lot of your life, and the kids are my priority over myself.”

Heather Rae did not have a linear path to parenthood. (Honestly, how many people do?) The TV personality was in the midst of IVF planning when she got pregnant “naturally” with Tristan.

“But I do have embryos saved and we were planning on implanting …,” she told Us Weekly in 2023. ” … I did not think I’d be able to get pregnant on my own. And now I have those embryos and who knows what’s going to happen.”

And “who knows what’s going to happen” must be exactly how Heather Rae, El Moussa, and their therapist are feeling now.

These blended celebrity families make it look easy!
